the file that I've downloaded from source forge is in C source code, I couldn't find a link to the compiled version, so it seem that I have to compile it myself... :( any suggestion of how to compile C source codes for win32 platform? or perhaps there's a link somewhere in source forge for the compiled version? As far as I understood well, the installable binaries for Windows aren't developped anymore since 2000. There's an exe file on http://www.jazzware.com/jazz/stable/mswin/jazz-nt40-4.0.0.zip, if you're = running Win XP. There was another version for Win98 but not anymore. I installed it very easy and it worked at 1st time. I'm trying to be able to run Jazz++ on FC3. The binary didn't work. First I get a pop-up window that say: "Could not open config include file .synth_confi gs.jzi" and then from the command prompt: jazz: dynamic-link.h:57: elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `! "bad dynamic tag"' failed. Abort (core dumped) From there I have been trying to get it to compile from source. I finally got the alsa-lib-devel and the wxGTK-devel installed so the 'rebuild' command runs mostly without errors. I still get: /usr/share/aclocal/wxwin.m4:36: warning: underquoted definition of AM_OPTIONS_WXCONFIG run info '(automake)Extending aclocal' or see http://sources.redhat.com/automake/automake.html#Extending-aclocal /usr/share/aclocal/wxwin.m4:59: warning: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_WXCONFIG When it finally gets to the compilation it runs through a fair amount of it before crashing out as follows: if g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -DJAZZ_DATADIR=\"/usr/local/share/jazz\" -I/ usr/lib/wx/include/gtk-2.4 -DGTK_NO_CHECK_CASTS -D__WXGTK__ -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS= 64 -D_LARGE_FILES -I../xrc/include -g -O2 -MT jazz-sig2.o -MD -MP -MF ".deps/ja zz-sig2.Tpo" -c -o jazz-sig2.o `test -f 'sig2.cpp' || echo './'`sig2.cpp; \ then mv -f ".deps/jazz-sig2.Tpo" ".deps/jazz-sig2.Po"; else rm -f ".deps/jazz-si g2.Tpo"; exit 1; fi In file included from sig2.cpp:22: sig2.h: In member function `virtual void tSampleResizingIterator<T, SPL>::Out(co nst tSigValue&)': sig2.h:447: error: `current' undeclared (first use this function) sig2.h:447: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each fu nction it appears in.) sig2.h:447: error: `length' undeclared (first use this function) sig2.h:448: error: there are no arguments to `Resize' that depend on a template parameter, so a declaration of `Resize' must be available sig2.h:448: error: (if you use `-fpermissive', G++ will accept your code, but al lowing the use of an undeclared name is deprecated) sig2.h:449: error: `channels' undeclared (first use this function) sig2.h:451: error: `data' undeclared (first use this function) make[2]: *** [jazz-sig2.o] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/msutton/jazz/src' make[1]: *** [all] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/msutton/jazz/src' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 |

I looked on all the sites and the only windows binaries I can find are for 4.0.0 which is the old version with the pay licence. Where can I get a windows binary of the GPL version of JAZZ? Or if none exist, what do I need to do to get the code to compile on windows? |

Hi team! Just a question about the status of your development, as I could not find a= ny=20 information on your page. "File - Open" and then selecting any midi-file looks great, but jazz++ (at= =20 least the CVS-version I just built) refuses to actually import the notes fr= om=20 the files. I can see the song and all instruments in the main window, but t= he=20 piano window is still empty, even though I can properly insert and play not= es=20 in there. Is the opening of .mid-files just a feature that is not implement= ed=20 fully yet, or did my mid-files trigger a bug? (I don't see a bug in the=20 terminal output though) take care (and please reply off-list as I'm not subscribed yet), thanks a lot! Thomas |

Hi all, I'm trying to apply effects to a voice (Settings->Effects...). But the problem is that I'd like to do DSP things like distortion and overdrive. = The Jazz++ Effects dialog box only has options for Chorus and Reverb. Is it possible to use, for example, an overdrive effect in Jazz++? I'd like to apply it to any voice (right now I'd like an overdrive piano), and not = just depend on existing voices (such as overdrive guitar). Any ideas? Many thanks, yours will |

Hi Just 'found' Jazz++. It sems to be just what I need to produce backing tracks for my clarinet pieces and background music for my video productions. I've managed to produce some useful rhythmn tracks using the random rythmn generator but so far have had no success in using the Harmony window in conjunction with the rythmn generator. What I would like to do is take my clarinet melody line and produce a harmonised piano or guitar track using chords. It looks as though I should be able to do this but even following the example tutorial has led to no success, I'm obviously missing something! Could anyone point me in the right direction please? BTW I'm running it on Windows XP. :-( John Lockett |

I just now checked and found out that jazz++ is going through a revival. I'm one of the customers for the original Linux distribution back in the previous millenium. For me Jazz++ was the only usable MIDI sequencing app for Linux. All others that I tried didn't use the MIDI file format as the native format, rather they "imported" MIDI, and for the application I used that meant they threw away or munged SysEx data that was critical to getting my Yamaha CS1x configured and sequencing correctly. Every single Yamaha "Blue Book" demo MIDI file (they're fairly complex) ran via jazz++, and that just wasn't the case for any other Linux sequencing software. Also Jazz++ could run on my meagure AMD 300MHz system. More recent Linux sequencers have massive binary sizes, huge memory and CPU requirements and bog down to the point where even the simplest playback cannot occur, let alone real sequence creation and playback. Anyways, "well done" to the team reviving the best MIDI sequencer I ever found for Linux. Stacey p.s. You might want to consider a "view the archives" URL for the user maillist (not just the devel maillist) on http://jazzplusplus.sourceforge.net/mailinglist/. |

I think the extent to which midi files squeeze data (variable-length delta times??) is pointless in this day and age. For how little space the files take up, they should at least be human readable, in my opinion. Some newer standard really ought to move in and take over. I have a question that I wasn't able to find an answer for on the website ... I know that you can set up a track to trigger audio samples. But how is this saved in the actual .mid file? As far as I know there isn't anything in the midi specification for triggering wavs ... or is there? I know you can also do this in other sequencers like Cakewalk (even old versions) but I would assume you have to save as .wrk in order not to lose the audio info. Does jazz++ have a similar "project file" format it saves to for this? Or does it cheat by saving an audio track as if it were a regular midi track with some extra data tacked onto it that would just be ignored by other sequencers/players? -Keith |

Group, Since I've heard about this project, I've been pretty anxious to pull = down a Win executable, beta or whathaveyou, to give it a try. Has = anybody heard anything as to when that might be happening? Thanks, J. Shannon |
