Hello The Jazzware old version is working on recent Windows versions as well as on old ones. I've never succeeded in installing the sources on different linux distributions (general midi problem and my own incompetence) There's a fork, but I don't have any idea about its development : http://jazzplusplus.sourceforge.net http://sourceforge.net/projects/jazzplusplus I'm using both rosegarden and Jazz++ and my opinion is that rosegarden is more complete but Jazz++ is easier and can be run on old systems, which is good to compose general midi files or play live. Et je suis content qu'il y ait des français sur cette liste ;) -- http://thibault.aspe.free.fr http://myownspace.fr/463 Selon Philippe CROGIEZ <cr...@ya...>: > Hello > > je ne comprend ton mail > moi je l'utilise en windows XP > > i don't unterstand if you are linux or windows > i use jazz on XP > > regards > > > Kevin Cosgrove <ke...@do...> a écrit : > > On 29 November 2007 at 16:43, "Mark Dawson-Butterworth" wrote: > > > Hello there! Hello there! I've reached the stage where Jazz 4.0.0 no longer does all I need, but see no sign of development since 2004. Is this the case? I'm a software engineer by profession, so am willing to help if there is still development ongoing, but am an embedded programmer with little Windows knowledge. |

Hi all. Like other posts I have read from this list, Jazz++ segfaults for me upon startup. Just thought the developers might like to know. For others who have this problem, I would advise you that this problem is often a problem within the program's source code that has to be debugged by the developers (or someone who knows what they're doing), so you'll probably just have to sit tight until the developers fix it. It's usually a programming error, but the thing is that the compiler usually won't catch it. It could also be caused by a sound driver or the like. Sound programs and drivers are a lot more volatile than I would have expected. If anyone has a fix (doubtful), I would be grateful to hear about it. For the developers' info, I'm running Debian Sarge (with a few Etch and Sid programs mixed in) with a 2.6.8 kernel on x86. |

For Pietro, Newest of the List.
Pietro,
If you are new to making midi files go to www.vanbasco.com. This is a
midi file search engine that will find the midi file for nearly any song you
care to name. Download a song that you like that sounds good to you when
played through a midi player. Open the song in Jazz++ to examine how the
file was put together. With Jazz++ you can examine all of the tracks in one
window, which makes it easy to see how the tracks for each different
instrument come together to make up the song. In the piano roll window, each
track can be viewed as individual notes and the picture becomes much
clearer.
I would suggest that a newcomer practice editing an existing midi file
by doing things such as erasing the bass line or the piano accompaniment and
writing a new one from scratch. Doing this goes a long way toward solving
the mystery of how to make your own midis using Jazz++.
Good luck,
Dennis Wolfe

Visit the ALSA website and look at the supported sound card matrix. It's quite extensive; you have lots of options. I got a M-audio Delta 1010. I think that ALSA supports USB, but not FireWire. Just look at the website to be sure. > My equipment is Alesis, Korg, and > Roland. My equipment is Alesis, both e-drums & keys. > Will JAZZ++ do score editing and print sheet music? Jazz++ has never done score editing nor sheet music. Rosegarden does sheet music, runs great on Mandrake, and comes with the install CDs (DVD) for Mandrake (now Mandriva). G'luck.... -- Kevin |

Hello, I'm trying to escape one of my old Macs and declining MIDI interface (using serial port) I have new machines with Mandrake Linux and FreeBSD and USB ports but I need to know if there is and needs to be a driver to use a USB MIDI interface on Linux (or a recommendation on interfaces to get and use). My equipment is Alesis, Korg, and Roland. Will JAZZ++ do score editing and print sheet music? Thanks in advance; J.E.Killen jek...@pr... |

Glenn,
I have been using Jazzware on my laptop with WinXP for over a year. It
works fine. I use it with Win2000 on one of my desktops and I used it with
Win98 for years. It is still the easiest, least complicated and most
reliable way for me to edit my midis.
I don't know how you use the program but I lay out my basic sequences in
Band in Box or Band Minus One. Sometimes I start from scratch in Jazz. I
edit it in Jazz where I add in sampled drums and midi keyboard played in
realtime, eliminating midi tracks as I go. If I want to make the sequence
sound phenomenal I use one of the tracks to record live bass.
I mix this down by recording to Cool Edit or any of the freeware WAV
Editors downloadable from the internet. I rip the WAV to MP3 at 128 or 160kb
using Right Click (another freeware program}. The mp3 is then downloaded to
my Ipod which is what I use in my performances. That's right; no midi's in
live performance, although I keep them in my keyboard for backup.
Glenn, I am no dilettante. I live on an island in the Caribbean where I
work at least six nights a week and often seven nights. I play guitar and
sing with the sequences. The combination of real time keyboard, an excellent
sampled drum kit downloaded free from Akai, and live bass makes an
unbelievable difference in a live performance.
Jazz++ is a wonderful tool that has made a lot of money for me over the
years. XP works fine with it.
Dennis Wolfe

I used Jazz++ exclusively for a long time, and I like it especially for its
harmony browser. Eventually the Jazz++ project lost momentum, the WxWin
toolkit upgrades required a rewrite of the Jazz++ code, and the project has
very little support at this time. Myself, I've moved onto Rosegarden, which
is an active project. I don't believe Rosegarden runs on Windows, but
that's OK for me as I run Linux. Do you have enough disk space on your
laptop to install Win95 too, and make the unit a dual-boot machine? You
could even install Linux, and make it a triple-boot machine.
Best of luck to you....

i've downloaded the jazz++ tarball available at the sf site, and there seems to be no configure script. i'm using mingw/msys in windows, and haven't been able to get autoconf running properly. rebuild gives me the following error: $ ./rebuild ./bootstrap: aclocal: command not found ./rebuild: ./configure: No such file or directory make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. has anyone had success with compiling with mingw? |

Là ce sont les numéros que tu tapes à la main sur l'écran du FP2. Pour le piloter avec Jazz+++, puisque ton FP2 est à la norme GM2, ça doit être possible. Hi, I tried to install Jazz++ on linux using the binary stable distribution. The installation directory is /usr/local/jazz and the JAZZ environment points to this place. As I tried to start jazz in a command prompt, I got a segmentation fault error. Did I make a mistake while installing Jazz++? Has somebody any idea what the problem could be? Thank you for your valuable help Best regards Thierry |
