What's new in iTop 3.0 beta
New look & feel
We have modernized the web pages presentation in an aim to increase the readability and also to have a global view on the most useful information at a glance.
Redesigned welcome page
note the condensed menu on the left. It can be expanded by clicking on the burger at the top
Bubble caselogs
similar to your favorite social network, discussions are now displayed as a timeflow, mixing public and private messages
New navigation
Horizontal or vertical, one scrollable page for everything or one page per tab, this is a parameter that each user can set in his preferences.
Classic with horizontal tabs, one scrollable page for all tabs
New with vertical tabs, one page per tab
New ergonomy
We understand that managing tickets may not be a passion. We also want to prevent MSDs because of too many mouse clicks. Therefore we have rethought the user experience with a goal of time saving. (your boss will love it).
Discover the Activity panel
This section displays everything that can happen in the life of a ticket (or any other object). That is logs, state changes, etc.
It can be expanded or collapsed. (i.e. displayed or hidden). Good!
It can be filtered. Waouh!
You can edit logs even in read mode (concurrent updates managed). Stellar!
Quick Create, a brand new feature
Look for the + sign.
Allways on top left corner of the pages
Create anything
No need to know in which menu it resides
Example: Click +, type 'per', select if you want to create a Person, a Peripheral or an Hypervisor
We also keep the list of recent creations in case you typed 'per' by mistake.
Object count, a nice to know information
When you search in menus or when you click on one of the left menu entries,
it displays level 2 details with some boxed numbers (e.g. 2 )
Those are counters of objects calculated automatically by iTop.
Thank you Einstein, it saves me time of going back to a dashboard.
That's not all folks.
We have also not forgotten admins with a set of predefined OQL queries
Quick search
Mention user with the @ sign
etc. etc.

Hello Maddian,
What do you mean by "handle workorders simultaneously"? It's not clear to me.
1. Would you of mean, ability to create a bunch of workorders at the same time, based for example on the requested service? A pilot extension exist for Combodo's customers, doing this: "Catalog of Procedure".
2. Would you mean, modify multiple workorders at the same time?that feature is a generic iTop feature which exist since years
3. Would you mean be able to quickly close a set of workorders which have been done? There are 2 pilot extensions for Combodo's customers which simplify those action, a Kanban board and a Bulk Event Management.

I download both the iTop Beta 3.0 version and the bleeding edge developed version on GitHub (daily) and start capturing data into the system. However, it seems asif the to see if the Service and Service Category doesnot allow the lookup to select the service and its category in both the helpdesk and incident modules.
Kindly see the attached screenshots. Btw, thank you for the super system, and I like the new look and feel to bits!
Regarding the dropdowns for the Service and Sub-category, we currently still have a lot of issues with the "external key" widget indeed... But in your case, have you select the Organization in the Incident ? Because the dropdowns are only populated with values when the Organization is selected.
Take care,
Guillaume

Hello Mara,
I am not able to reproduce, but I am seeing 2 stuff which are weird on your example, You create an incident for an organization LDTCS and you explain that you have services delivered by LDTCS, but do you have a contract between LDTCS and LDTCS to specify the services delivered and the service level. In addition, I see that you have Customized Request Form installed and it is not yet compatible with 3.0

Generally speaking, I think that the new interface is great (even if, for now, I'm a little slower than in the 'plain old' interface :)
I got a trouble and two questions :
The trouble : Each time I edit an element, in the history bar i get n antry named 'Welcome to iTop' who leads to the same edition page.
More specific : if I select a server, than edit, then apply then te history bar says (at the end) :
(icon wrench) Welcome to iTop > (icon server) Server 1. If I then clic on 'Welcome to iTop' I'm back in Server1, in editing mode.
The questions :
In every table value, I (greatly) miss the 'Export to' choices.
This alone is a reason to stay in 2.7 :)
Also, it seems (not sure) that the main menu doesn't test anymore that the conf file is in rw mode ?
Thanks,
Pascal

I'm running the 'official beta version, build 7322', but I'm willing to use any 'better' (or, at least more up to date' version.
So, maybe is the 'trouble' already corrected ?
For the 'Export to' choice, here we are :
Up to version 2.7.4, in each 'table' view (in that case, the server view', you have, under the 'tools' icon, those choices :
I don't see any equivalent in iTop 3.0 :
For the 'itop-conf.php rw status :
In itop up to 2.7, if the itop-conf.php file is in rw mode, then, when connecting to the main page, we got rhis message :
In the current version the export options are present. I remember we had some troubles with both dialogs and export some months ago, maybe that's why the options aren't available in your package.
About the warning message on entering iTop if the conf file is RW, I have it now, but I doubt this was removed during the 3.0.0 development ? This is present since a very long time in iTop and I don't think we made some changes to this code ?
Are you sure the file is RW to the http server user ?
Since the 3.0.0-beta community release in april there was lot of work done : we are aiming at releasing a 3.0.0-beta2 community in the next week. Stay tune !

This time, it works ! I did numerous tests before, and it wasn't working (in fact, I test a delivery method, and, if I install new extensions, I put the file in rw, to 'force a setup').
So, this one seems to be on my side, I apologize :)

Hello, good night.
I've been following ITop quietly awhile as an alternative go GLPI as a tool we are using now a days. I see a great improving into this new version, i am still testing it but i am really pleased in general for what i am seeing. One thing i could not see still was the ability to change the user or profile permissions into the system, this way we would be able for example to just allow a technician to see the tickets assigned to them and not to an entire entity. That would be a great move. Let me know if this is something your are taking in consideration for this version or maybe a future update.
thank you

Since the very early days of iTop there are ways to customize user rights and silos, both in the admin console and in the user portal.
Hi Pierre, good day how are you doing! You are right! thanks for that solution! worked like a charm.
Another point you may help me is if the system has ability for e-mail to ticket to create rules as for example e-mails what comes from an especific e-mail sender ato be assigned to an specific entity (Organization) is this somethig possible or any similar solution to this? to work with rules for the emails what will be received in a way the system can handled based on rules?!
thank you and have a blessed day

I think Combodo has an extension for that. You might want to check with them first.
Alternatives:
configure rules on your email server to move the emails in different folders; then create multiple email inbox objects in iTop so each folder is read and has different values

Good afternoon Guillaume,
Thank you kindly for your prompt response, yes indeed I did select the Organization in the Incident Module.
Attached, see the screenshots for your perusal
Thanks for the screenshot, I'll share it with the team so we can check/fix it!
Cheers,
Guillaume

Hello,
Thanks for your feedbacks !
First things first, did you use a GitHub repo clone, or the packaged iTop 3.0.0-beta community ?
I think I recall this problem, it doesn't appear now on my repo clone... but I can't find any ticket reference in Combodo DB unfortunately :/
Not sure of what you're referring to ? Can you do some screenshots ?
Didn't understand too sorry. Also a screenshot ?
Hi Pierre,
Thank you to be so active qith us :)

It seems to me that this warning is missing in the version 3.0 (In fact, I can use iTop normally with the file in rw mode)
Thanks,
Pascal

Hello Pascal,
Thanks for all those explanations !
In the current version the export options are present. I remember we had some troubles with both dialogs and export some months ago, maybe that's why the options aren't available in your package.

Hi,
OK, for the exports, I'm waiting the next release.
For the undetected rw conf file :
Just to be sure, what I did :
Current status of config-itop.php :
Trough the control panel, Configuration -> General setup, I did a change in the file :
Then, status of the file again ;
So, as the timestamp shows, the file was modified.
Then :
This time, it works ! I did numerous tests before, and it wasn't working (in fact, I test a delivery method, and, if I install new extensions, I put the file in rw, to 'force a setup').
So, this one seems to be on my side, I apologize :)
It will be announced in this forum :)
No problem !

Hello,
Since the very early days of iTop there are ways to customize user rights and silos, both in the admin console and in the user portal.
Look for example at those wiki pages :
iTop implementation guide [iTop Documentation]
Managing User Accounts [iTop Documentation]
Managing Organizations [iTop Documentation]
Portal customization overview [iTop Documentation]
Changing what can be seen on Portal [iTop Documentation]
Hi Pierre, good day how are you doing! You are right! thanks for that solution! worked like a charm.

I think Combodo has an extension for that. You might want to check with them first.
Alternatives:
configure rules on your email server to move the emails in different folders; then create multiple email inbox objects in iTop so each folder is read and has different values
https://github.com/jbostoen/itop-jb-mail-to-ticket-automation-v2 - with limited programming effort, you could easily write your own 'policy' to accomplish this (I've also developed some specific policies for other organizations).
Indeed the modules packaged in the free Mail To Ticket extension can be customized. Combodo can help with that, contact sales@combodo.com
