Yeah, it helps to read the instructions! I knew something seemed weird about the idea of the live session retaining modifications after reboot with a read only filesystem:) The word PERSISTENCE might have given me a clue;)
On an unrelated note: Have you been keeping track of progress on Weyland? Will it really replace X eventually? I don't know much about about it, except that it's under development...

Yeah, sounds like it will optimize things considerably, but it's still in early development.
Umm, should I wait for the next IO release to do a permanent install, or could I just install 6.04, boot in recovery and then upgrade the packages? Would that work?
Thanks a lot,
Matt

Mmmm I suggest you to wait a little bit more.. there are so many upgrades/changes since the last release that it can be difficult to fully upgrade the system.. most of the work before 2016.05 release is done... I've to work on the installer a bit more... the manual needs works too... and a few things.. stay tuned, it's coming ;)

Ok, for now I'm stuck with xorg upgrade that make nvidia stuff uninstallable... it may delay a little the 2016.05 release...
The good news is that I've just uploaded a fixed io-installer in the repo, so Matt if you want to install:
From your working persistence pen drive, upgrade the io-installer and proceed to the install.
It should work nnow with your combo intel/nvidia graphics setup.
Let me know how it goes :)

Dumb question -- got it installed, nvidia drivers working, it all works great! Thank you! I am going to buy a deskside render server next week that will have a GTX 1080 in it. I will test the new installer on that machine. Thank you for everything. This is my ideal computing environment:)

I've been a bit dismotivated during the last weeks... and i'm currently a bit in troubles with the "io studio configuration" and jack not working anymore. I will work on this next week... hope I'll get some news soon.

You are actually prepared to start. At this point, you have to have the ability to perform the following:
Backup your critical files
Media created for Windows set up. Windows set up media
The Ubuntu deployation media turned into created with the aid of using the Ubuntu team.
There are strategies of putting in the software. If there may be already Windows 10 set up, you can have the Ubuntu installer reduce the partition and the set up will take area withinside the empty space. If you have now no longer but set up Windows 10, deployation it on a smaller partition that you may create at some point of the set up process. (I'll provide an explanation for a way to do that withinside the subsequent section.) The different technique is greater favored and is much less vulnerable to errors. It's probable that you may now no longer come across any troubles no matter the technique, however putting in Windows with the aid of using hand and making the partition a smaller size, after which putting in Ubuntu is the maximum green technique to follow.
If you have already got Windows 10 set up for your PC then pass the subsequent omegle. Windows set up steps and flow directly to putting in Ubuntu.

Hey Matt, look at the Preparing an USB flash drive (with persistence).. in fact you have to create a file called persistence.conf :)
Oops. Shit, sorry, I didn't read very carefully. I'll try again. Thanks!
No problem ;) I'm on IRC (server: freenode, canal: #iognulinux)... if you have problems, don't hesitate to come in.
Bingo! It works, thank you!
\o/ Cool :)

Wayland
Hi, I've not tried Wayland, but I know enlightenment's devs are working on... any idea on how it will deal with live systems.
Yeah, sounds like it will optimize things considerably, but it's still in early development.

Awesome, I'm excited! Ok, just so I'm clear -- I do this:
1) Boot off the pen drive into persistence mode
2) Open a shell and: sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get install live-config live-config-doc live-config-io live-config-systemd;
3) Install to hard drive from the system IO menu.
Is that right? Is that all I have to do?
Thanks,
Matt
Or, actually, step 2 is wrong, I'm guessing... just: sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install io-installer?

Cool :D it's a good news, glad everything is ok now and u can use IO installed... as 2016.05 release will be delayed a bit more...
Greetingz :)
Greetings Manu! I just bought a new Asus ROG machine. Very nice. It has a GTX970 in it. How are you doing with the new installer?
I can't wait to erase Winodws from this machine:)
Hi Manu! Any news regarding the new release?
Hi Matt,
I've been a bit dismotivated during the last weeks... and i'm currently a bit in troubles with the "io studio configuration" and jack not working anymore. I will work on this next week... hope I'll get some news soon.
Regards
