Hi
I try to compile infomap on ubuntu studio, last version.
The configure command says :
configure could not find all of the necessary DBM functions.
(dbm_open, dbm_close, dbm_fetch, dbm_store). This
probably
means that configure could not find your DBM library,
or
that you do not have a DBM library installed. (See
above
output for the results of library checks.) Please
install
a DBM-compatible library (such as GNU DBM) or write to
inf...@li... for advice.
But I have libgdbm3 (GNU dbm database routines(runtime version))
installed. I think it doesnt see it.. Have you got an idea or solution ?
Yours,
Diogene

Hi Michiel,
Yes, you need dbm_open, which can be found in a DBM or compatible
library, such as gdbm. I would try the following:
(1) In the configuration/install menus for Cygwin, see if you can
find gdbm (or something else with a "dbm" in it, like dbm or ndbm).
This may also have a "lib" in its name (e.g. libgdbm).
(2) If (1) fails, download gdbm and install it yourself. You can
find it, e.g., at
ftp://ftp.mirror.nl/pub/mirror/gnu/gdbm
The gdbm home page (http://www.gnu.org/software/gdbm/) has a link to a
list of other mirrors from which gdbm can be downloaded.
Let me know if that helps.

Hi all,
After the system administrators of my faculty were so kind as to format my =
local harddrives ("you don't need them anyway"), I'm finding I'm having qui=
te a bit of unforseen difficulty getting Infomap (latest version) to work a=
gain under Cygwin. As I had it working for a two years or so, I hope someon=
e would be able to help me.
First, when installing, and after doing the ./configure (either with or wit=
hout prefix), I get a single error:
Checking for dbm_open in lgdbm... no
But then it goes on stating that
Checking for dbm_open in lgdbm_compat... yes
Still, the manual seems to indicate this is especially important for Infoma=
p, so my guess would be that it has something to do with this. Anyway, cont=
inuing my report, "make" and "make install" work fine, but I get a big erro=
r when building a model:=20
(everything goes fine up till "opening file for 'r': /infomap_working_dir/l=
eft, which is nearly in the end)
Can't open /infomap_working_dir/word2offset Failed to dbm_Open(): Device or=
resource busy.
make: *** [/infomap_working_dir/wordvec.bin] Error 1
So, would anyone know if this is a problem related to dbm_open? I have some=
experience with Infomap, but little with Unix/cygwin or programming in C, =
so I found some information on the forum about gdbm and ndbm and linking th=
is to that, but that was too advanced for me.=20
Thanks for reading, and or helping!

Dear Xochitl, It may be that the infomap-install script is too discouraging in its =20 error messages! Different DB systems create differently names files, =20 and it may be that the infomap-install script on your system is =20 looking for filenames that your DB system doesn't actually need. (For =20= example, if you have word2offset.dir and word2offset.pag, you might =20 not need word2offset.db.) The best way to test this is to see if you can search the installed =20 model using associate. In other words, it may all be working in spite =20= of the error messages. Hi Xochitl,
I would try (a) looking in /tmp/xoala/infomap_working_dir to see
if the model is there, and (b) re-running the command as follows:
infomap-build -w /home/xoala/workingdir -s
/home/xoala/corpora/kjbible.txt kjbible
I speculate that the -w option is being ignored when it is specified
after the model tag (kjbible). In this case the software should
default to use /tmp/xoala/infomap_working_dir as the default working
directory...
