Is there a way i can see progress on the module? i check the cvs on SF every now and then, but its still revision 1.1.1 Last week i talked to Eric about additional tests, and was keen on testing it. But havent seen anything on the list since then. Regards Jasper Wonnink |

Sounds like an good idea. maybe you can also check if the used key is valid? There are actually some test entries maintained within the list. How about if the diagnostics page includes a test where it performs a query on one of the test entries and checks for the proper response? -----Original Message----- From: htt...@li... Maybe its possible to make some sort of back connect with the blacklist, so when you start, its connect to the blacklist, which tries to connect to the webserver and reports success (thus not being able to connect in some way?) webserver starts -> mod_httpbl -> blacklist then blacklist (back connect application) -> webserver (and fails because its blacklisted) then blacklist -> mod_httbl and reports the test went ok? or is there a way to "fake" an blacklist entry? so i can add an ip and go to the site to see it works. It is normal that not all of the tests are working. Some of the tests are for functionality that has not been enabled yet. Currently only the first three tests are performed. After Jasper reported his compile/run problem, I had another look at the apr_socket_create business. The patch applied to the cvs master for my earlier fix seems to be broken. 1) APR_MAJOR_VERSION is only available after including apr_version.h, which isn't in the current code - this means that despite the #if, all platforms try to compile the 1.9 version with apr_socket_create_ex 2) The APR >= 1 side of the #if passes four parameters where it should use 5 so wouldn't work anyway. Diff/patch attached, tested on APR 1.2. Also, with this fixed, I now get my /httpbl_diagnostics/ page. Huzzah! There *is* a compile warning produced in complaint, but it's lost among the many others. It's probably worth having a blitz on cleaning up the warnings. -jmb -- James Beckett <jm...@ha...> <http://www.hackery.net/jmb/> F601 C085 1482 B92A C812 556C A985 1497 209B 4E65 |

James, i dont know exactly how to find those versions, i do have the apr-config command, and it says that its version 0.9.6. perhaps you can point me to the patch that was around, and ill test if it works. thanks for the heads up. A patch went in to use apr_socket_create_ex for APR<1.0 and apr_socket_create otherwise, if you're seeing a failure with the former, perhaps the version boundary is wrong. Well i got it working, but not running, apache lists the module as loaded, but if i open the httpbl-testing, it just says no such dir :( i hope some1 has some additional info for me about the matter. p.s. i have a custom apache2 installation, but it works like a charm (same install as on our other servers) its compiled with: ./configure" \ "--enable-modules=most" \ "--enable-mods-shared=most" \ "--enable-file-cache" \ "--enable-cache" \ "--enable-disk-cache" \ "--enable-mem-cache" \ "--enable-rewrite" \ "--disable-authn-dbm" \ "--with-included-apr" \ "--enable-unique-id" \ "$@" so nothing fancy.. Hello everybody,
I tried to compile the module but it gave me an error, after installing
the libs it compiled ok.
libpcre3 libpcre3-dev
(debian sarge)
After compiling the module, edited the config:
<IfModule !mod_httpbl.c>
HTTPBLRBLEnabled On
HTTPBLLogDir /usr/local/apache2/logs/
HTTPBLTestingURL /httpbl_testing/
HTTPBLDefaultAction allow
HTTPBLAccessKey mykey
</IfModule>
and put an directory with the following:
<Directory ~ /.*>
HTTPBLRBLEnabled On
HTTPBLRBLReqHandler 255:0-255:0-255:255 deny
</Directory>
configtest tells me the following:
httpd: Syntax error on line 70 of /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache2/modules/mod_httpbl.so into server:
/usr/local/apache2/modules/mod_httpbl.so: undefined symbol:
apr_socket_create_ex
Any idea's on what i missed here?
Thanks,
Regards,
Jasper Wonnink

Having removed the
HTTPBLTestingURL /httpbl_testing/
per bug #1711506, I'm finding that /httpbl_diagnostics/ always produces an
empty page, so I've not been able to run the tests mentioned by Jesse and
others. Is there another way to check the basic functionality of the mod?
[1] The log dir is writable, but I've not seen anything put there yet
[2] The repos directory is writable, and so far I've seen only a single
file httpbl_diagnostics_test.txt dropped there
[3] "Resolve and reach the RBL domain"? I can see entries in my BIND
query log, and can look up the test addresses by hand, which I
imagine is what this means.
If this is concealing a local config error, perhaps that might be related
to do with the following anomaly: So far, I've only seen httpBL DNS lookups
for two IP addresses - one of them around 4200 times and the other only once,
since installation on 2007-05-02.
Here's an example from a few minutes ago where I used a remote machine on
80.237.210.109 to access my server:
80.237.210.109 - - [15/May/2007:16:31:46 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 4154 "-"
"Lynx/2.8.4rel.1 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6c"
but the corresponding entry in named.querylog is
15-May-2007 16:31:46.757 client 127.0.0.1#50330: query:
(my ID).235.1.194.62.dnsbl.httpbl.org IN A +
The address 62.192.1.235 doesn't appear in any other apache log files, and
seems entirely spurious. The other address is a known client of a web service
I run, with a large number of accesses per day, none of which correspond to
the single BIND log entry:
02-May-2007 23:50:06.118 client 127.0.0.1#34863: query:
(my ID.240.1.21.167.dnsbl.httpbl.org IN A +
I did however only enable my querylog after first installing http:BL, so
there may be some early requests that have been cached and not repeated.
I wonder if anyone here has performed any similar correlation test on their
web server and DNS lookup logs?

Hey Dave, thanks a lot, for this update. Sounds great. Installation of the new module (1.4 aka the-now-called-1.1.1.1) works just as smooth as the first one (the-first-1.1.1.1). There were plenty of warnings during compile time. If you wish to see them, give me a short note, but I think you know them already (most of them because of unused vars). It was given version " 1.1.1.1 <http://1.1.1.1>" by default since CVS thinks it is the first version. It is actually the most current version, which includes a variation of the patch code submitted by James Beckett making the module compatible with Apache 2.2.x. The version that is currently on the CVS tree (revision 1.1.1.1 <http://1.1.1.1>) would actually be revision 1.4 (I think) of the previous numbering system. I hope to have a new revision checked into the CVS tree within a few days. > > Things to look forward to regarding mod_httpbl and the SourceForge project: > - code feature: InterProcessCommunication - a feature that reduce DNS lookups, speed up average overall page response times, and reduce resources used by the module > - project feature: A landing page for the SourceForge project walking you through the newest features and making the module a little easier to install and configure. > - code feature: An Apache 1.3 compatible version of the module > - A few more features > - Many fewer bugs (don't forget to let us know if you find any!) > - Instructions to help future developers get up to speed quickly on helping with the SourceForge project > > > Dave |

I'm fairly new to the list and don't have access to the archives so hopefully this is not something that's all ready been said. I just got mod_httpbl working with ubuntu edgy. The only issue I had is that ubuntu calls apxs for apache2 apxs2 and is in an odd package(apache2-prefork-dev). I remember I also had to install libapr0-dev and I think there was one or two other libraries but other then that and a small typo in the readme for cvs (all ready reported by someone else) it installed like a charm. |

Zyan and other mod_httpbl users, Here is an update on the SourceForge CVS situation: SourceForge had a hardware failure on Thursday and Friday of last week on the server(s) running mod_httpbl, causing CVS to go down completely for several hours. I took that time to clear the CVS repository because we were apparently confusing new users about the versioning of the module. As of this moment, the newest revision of mod_httpbl is the only source in the CVS tree. There is no compilable version specifically designed for Apache 1.3 so the source in that branch of CVS has been removed for the time being. I do not have a test environment for 1.3 or 2.2 yet and as such, there is no official version of code specifically written for 1.3.x or 2.2.x. The newest revision of the mod_httpbl.c code is available in the 2.0 fork of the SourceForge CVS repository. It was given version "1.1.1.1" by default since CVS thinks it is the first version. It is actually the most current version, which includes a variation of the patch code submitted by James Beckett making the module compatible with Apache 2.2.x. The version that is currently on the CVS tree (revision 1.1.1.1) would actually be revision 1.4(I think) of the previous numbering system. I hope to have a new revision checked into the CVS tree within a few days. Things to look forward to regarding mod_httpbl and the SourceForge project: - code feature: InterProcessCommunication - a feature that reduce DNS lookups, speed up average overall page response times, and reduce resources used by the module - project feature: A landing page for the SourceForge project walking you through the newest features and making the module a little easier to install and configure. - code feature: An Apache 1.3 compatible version of the module - A few more features - Many fewer bugs (don't forget to let us know if you find any!) - Instructions to help future developers get up to speed quickly on helping with the SourceForge project Dave On 5/14/07, Eric Langheinrich < er...@pr...> wrote: > > We are currently doing some clean up work.
