Oh, you're right. I didn't look in the submenu of "icon"; I guess this isn't a place where one would expect it. The new option is fine, btw. In my opinion, as these are the main switches, both options should be moved back into the main menu, maybe separated with an extra line. That would guarantee quick access and an easy find. Additionally, naming the about-box "Help..." could make users expect a help page or some kind of documentation. I'd suggest "About..." instead and moving it to the other two options, that don't do anything with the current viewed page. This would lead to something like this. .----------------------- | Options | Icon > | About... .----------------------- | Enable | Enable for www.whatever.com .----------------------- | Advanced > | Cleanup... | Page Source... |.---------------------- Just an idea. > It is still there in the Icon submenu with a new other option: Disable > for site. > I do not know if it is intuitive or not ? It is still there in the Icon submenu with a new other option: Disable for site. I do not know if it is intuitive or not ? Maybe it should be done in another way. I am open to any comment about this. With the latest RC I found that the menu item to enable/disable the extension (in the right-click menu) is gone. So now we have first to open the options dialog, check "Enable validation in the browser" and afterwards click ok (and the same thing reverse to disable it). If it's possible, please bring this menu item back. That was the easiest way to launch the validation for a quick-check. |

There's this menu item "Advanced > Online W3C validator" which passes online and local pages to the W3C HTML validator. Would it be possible to optionally send those pages to the validator at validome.org? Their results are better readable and they provide four languages and what I read in the local media their XHTML results are more accurate. |

Hi Andy, Quite interesting mail. You are in short quite right. The SGML parser is builded inside a DLL called nsTidy.dll (or .so) containing both tidy and opensp. It bundles too most DTDs of W3c to make validation locally. But I think that opensp has the bad habit to make anyway request to a DTD when the link is used in the doctype. I fixed a lot of issues about this. Because I work also most of the time behind a proxy. I do not know the issue you speak about here. I would be really interested to get a sample to see what I can do to solve it. Thanks by advance, Marc Andy Dingley wrote: > I love the extension, especially the new SGML validator. Marc, another problem now :-( Yesterday I changed ldconfig's config, so that all libraries for=20 libnstidy.so were found. And HTMLValidator shows up when I look ath the=20 source of a page. BUT: - HTMLValidator does nothing with the source code, just the blue bar=20 running at the bottom of the window - HTMLValidator does not show up in the status bar of the browser window I tried to link to another xpcom library by pointing ldconfig to=20 /usr/lib64/seamonkey. Hi Stephano, Even if the extension is running inside firefox, the extension takes care only about standard. I see this about XML islands: < With Internet Explorer, the unofficial <xml> tag can be used...> If it is an Ms extension for HTML or XHTML, it is not a part of the HTML standard. As such, it is invalid HTML. The extension validates standard HTML. Nothing else. You should try to use the standards in place of such Ajax tricks :-) About MacOSX, sorry, there is currently no MacOSX version of the 0.8x version. Anyway, as it is not a standard HTML, it will not help you. Hope it helps, Marc bargioni wrote: > > On 31/gen/07, at 23:37, Marc Gueury wrote: > >> Hi Stefano, >> >> Please give me an example. > > <html> > <body> > <xml id="note" src="note.xml"></xml> > </body> > </html> > > I copied it from look at http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_data_island.asp > where you can understand better what xml islands are. Hi Joe, Thanks a lot for the bug report. I got several people that pinged me about the problem but could not reproduce it. Like you say, it is not due to my extension, neither to Firebug. I tried to include your fix, but it brakes the extension :-) Anyway, I looked further and found a way to reproduce one of the issue mentioned here: http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/browse_thread/thread/90a9f17941cd2418/f6f61001631aec4d?lnk=gst&q=validator&rnum=1 <http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/browse_thread/thread/90a9f17941cd2418/f6f61001631aec4d?lnk=gst&q=validator&rnum=1> I found another way to work-around the issue by removing the creation of the tooltip during the onLoad trigger. I did upload a new version of next version of HTML Validator (0.836) with a fix for this: - can you check if it works for you. http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/preview_080.html Whatever is the result, I am interested to know if it solves the problem you are seeing. If not, can you tell me more about your environment OS and so on. Thanks by advance, Marc Joe Hewitt wrote: > Hi Marc, > > I'm the creator of the Firebug extension. Hi Fabrice, Jonas, Marc, It should be solved since several days now. The file had a wrong privilege on the webserver. My fault. It should now work. Thanks for reporting this ! Hi Guido, Can you explain, with copy HTML or Error ? Which HTML validator version ? Normally it should work. I just tested it. I have Firefox 2.0.0.1 and XP SP2 too. Hi Werner, The extension need to have firefox to load this library with XPCOM. It is a kind of list of dynamic libraries. @mozilla.org/tidy;1 is the name of the library in XPCOM. It seems it is not registered or the library can not be loaded. Have you checked the FAQ about this ? http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/faq.html point 3 Marc Werner Flamme wrote: > Marc Gueury schrieb am 31.01.2007 23:42: > >> You make me think about it . Hi Ren=E9, I think there is a Firefox bug about this behavior not due to my extensio= n. But anyway. I heard that loosing the focus on Firefox and set it back=20 allow to wa the issue. It seems too that it happens only when Firebug is used at the same time.=20 Is it your case too ? Anyway, I never seen it ... Hi Olivier, This is really something weird. I can see it too with my Seamonkey. I had to switch to 2 lines that both copy files to solve it. It is really not understandable why it was working before and why changing the order of the copy of 2 files solve this issue. It will be fixed in 0.836.
