Can you please do this: - download the xpi file - rename it to .zip - unzip it - stop Firefox - copy the file .autoreg to Program Files/Mozilla Firefox too. - start Firefox Then if it doesnot work, go in Tools/Error console ? Is there any tidy message there ? Thanks, Marc Kyle wrote: > I manually copied the nstidy.dll in the xpi into the mozilla firefox > directory, and It didn't give me the error, but It's not working. Yes, I do install everything in this profile directory in version 0.795. This is why I do not understand exactly what is up but I have this theory: * that Vista does not allow Normal users to install binary on their machine. * but the extension has to be installed by the end-user who use it * but seen the extension contains a binary, it does not work Marc NoWhereMan wrote: > > > ----- Original Message ----- > *From:* Marc Gueury <mailto:mg...@sk...> > *To:* Kyle <mailto:spa...@ya...> > *Cc:* htm...@li... > <mailto:htm...@li...> > *Sent:* Wednesday, January 17, 2007 10:17 PM > *Subject:* Re: [Htmlvalidator-help] Vista compatibility > > Hi Kyle, > > Yes probably, > - if you install the extension with an end-user > - stop firefox > - then before to restart if you put the nstidy.dll in the Program > Files/Mozilla firefox directory > - it should work. Hi Bryce, This will be corrected in version 0.835 when I will release it. It should be quite soon. This problem was introduced by a change I did to make the extension compatible with Firefox 2.0. So, it will be corrected soon. 0.835 will introduce some UI changes and I think looks a little better too. Hi Mathias, Can you try something for me ? Can you do the same test but with Firefox=20 2.0.0.1 that you download from www.mozilla.org ? The problem is that sometimes, some distributions decides to change some=20 random compile flag used to compile Firefox or remove XPCOM. What is=20 causing issues like the one you are experience now. Hi Kyle, Sorry, I do not know Vista and have no Vista machine and have never seen it neither. The only thing I am sure is that some people succeded to install the extension on Vista since some people asked me some questions about it. Still I do not know the implication of the Vista security and do not know what to change to make it usable as an end-user on Vista. But from what I understand, I think simply that firefox extension with C/C++ part in Vista will never been able to be installed with a normal user. What I think is what Microsoft wished to do by introducing their new security system. If there is a way to solve it by a trick or another, I would be happy to do it. Hello, It is Linux right ? It happened since 2.0.0.1 and with 2.0.0.0 ? And it was working with previous versions of Firefox. Can you give me - your precise OS and distribution - as well as where the browser come from (downloaded from www.mozilla.org) or from a RPM packaging ? from the distribution ? - was it working before 2.0.0.1 I think we need ti log a bug in bugzilla.mozilla.org. I think the base problem is inside mozilla code. My 0.795 code did not changed for the 2.0. upgrade just the way to call the view source was different. The current beta has a fascinating new option, to validate a page after javascript has run. But I can't get it to give me any result. Does anyone else have this working? I use SUSE 10.0 and Windows 2000, with the current firefox and tidy beta. The feature is probably great! Rather than validating: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>JSample2</title> </head> <body> Sample 2: document.write<br> <script type="text/javascript"> doc.write( "<br>" ); doc.write( "<center>" ); doc.write( "Contacting the W3C Markup Validation Service<br>" ); </script> </body> </html> You would validate the result: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>JSample2</title> </head> <body> Sample 2: document.write<br> <center> Contacting the W3C Markup Validation Service<br> </body> </html> -- ---- Visit http://www.obviously.com/ |

Hi Werner, Thanks for your mail. Portablily of an extension is something really=20 complex. I do not have a good answer for this now. Like you say, I should maybe have the extension more flexible to use=20 external programs. But it would mean writing down each HTML before parsing on the HD. Not sure if it is the best solutions, but maybe that is the way to go.=20 It is in my todo list and hope write it once to have an platform dependent version. Hoping that it would be more easy to=20 maintain while I will loose at the same time a lot of feature like dynamic filtering of errors or translation of=20 error message (what a lot of people requires) Anyway, you can try playing with this: >=20 http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Extension_Versioning,_Update_and_Com= patibility#Power_Tip:_Installing_Extensions_You_Know_Are_Compatible It should work or nearly work. Hi Mac, Sorry for the time to answer but got no access to emails for a long time. I think what you are explaining : You look a page then do: Validate now (HTML after javascript execution) And it is broken in Firefox 2.0 and it worked in 1.5. If this is your=20 problem, I know the issue but got no time to examine it and to see if it=20 is solvable. I hope it is. But I am not sure about this at all. Unhappily. Hope it helps, Marc We exchanged emails a while back, when my address was 'Ma...@St...'. At that time I was just taking a few minutes to let you know how great your extension was, after I had installed v0.8.3.3 on Firefox 1.5.0.7. When the upgrade to 1.5.0.8 had no negative effects on the functionality, I figured life was GREAT! Then, came the Firefox 2.0 push... when the folks at Mozilla announced a closing date for support of the 1.5+ version tree. I figured since I had seen so much info pass by; regarding all of the pre-release versions of 2.0, that it would be safe to make the switch. While I wasn't prepared for some of the changes (mostly the integrated 'Add-Ons' Manager) it seemed that FF2.0 made a number of my previous extensions obsolete... which was a big win as I was pushing 50 installed extensions. Then came the realization that something had gone wrong with the 'post JavaScript' portion of your extension :-( When I upgraded from 0.8.3.1 = to 0.8.3.3 (FF-1.5+) I was greeted by a view of the HTML that was written by my JavaScript; and all the errors I had made :-( Now, even w/a fresh install of v0.8.3.4 I just get the static HTML in the source window and even with a known error in the JavaScript... everything validates just fine :-( If it helps, I am attaching the output from the "My Config" feature of "M= R Tech's Local Install". Wasn't sure which format you'd prefer, so... I am sending both HTML & TXT. I rather hope that it is a conflict on my end, as I have been experiencin= g some 'Run-Away' issues with FF2.0 and TB-1.5.0.8; which share a few commo= n extensions. Anyway, if you can provide any insight into my problem that would be great! If this is a know issue, then at least I'll know to be patient and check frequently for new 0.8.x releases; if not, then I may just have to be frustrated (Doh!-) Cheers, ...ma...@Fa... Hi Marco, Sorry for the time to answer but I got no acces to my mail for a long time You can maybe try to run a chmod +x on the directory $MOZ_HOME/extensions/tidy and check that the file is well there ? You can simpy go to $MOZ_HOME/extensions/tidy then run "make" simply from there and try to see what is wrong. Hope it helps, Marc Marco Giusti wrote: > hi, > i'm trying to build the html validator extension for linux ppc but i > got a fatal error: can't create ../tidy/src/access.o: No such file o > directory. > > can you help me? > > bye > marco > > |

Hi James, Sorry for the time to answer but I got no access to mail for a long time. In short, the only way to force the HTML version used by the extension is to use the 0.8x version in SGML. And set the DTD to the 3.2 version, something like this at the begin of your HTML. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN"> Anyway, In the case of Tidy, Tidy chooses the algorithm and check the HTML on a guess trick. I think there is no way to force the version used. The options are here, I do not think there is an option for this: http://tidy.sourceforge.net/docs/quickref.html Hope it helps, and Happy New Year ! HTML Validator has a problem with the line: <head profile="http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2731.txt http://www.w3.org/2006/03/hcard"> in: <http://www.westmidlandbirdclub.com/new.htm> which it reports as: line 5 column 1 - Warning: <head> escaping malformed URI reference and wants to change to: <head profile= "http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2731.txt%20http://www.w3.org/2006/03/hcard"> replacing the space between the URLs with '%20'. It's my understanding, from: <http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-html40-970917/struct/global.html#h-8.3> This attribute specifies the location of one or more meta data profiles, separated by white space. that the space is correct. -- Andy Mabbett * Say "NO!" to compulsory ID Cards: <http://www.no2id.net/> * Free Our Data: <http://www.freeourdata.org.uk> * Are you using Microformats, yet: <http://microformats.org/> ? |

Hi, =20 I was wondering if there was an easy way to specify the HTML Version for validation. I am assuming that I would have to use the SGML version for this type of processing. I would like to set validation against HTML 3.2 spec. =20 Thanks for your help, =20 James |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I wonder what will happen to the Firefox plugin for Linux on x86_64 platform. The most recent version ist not comaptible with FF 2.0, and I have no success in compiling it on my machine. Isn't it possible to have tidy, sgml parser and so on installed on the system separately, so that the plugin just uses them? For example, I installed libtidy-050517-4, tidy-050517-4, sgml-skel-0.6-269, sgmltool-1.0.9-914, and sgmltools-lite-3.0.2-1075 as well, but the plugin wants its own version. Maybe one can change the HTML Validator plugin so that it uses already installed libraries? And provide tidy and the sgml parser as separate plugins? Modul=F6arity helps maintaining ;-) Regards, Werner - -- Werner Flamme, Dept. Hi Igor, I do not know do you have an example of such a page on internet ? What you explain is really possible, the worst case is that when you look at a page inside a firewall, if the page contains DTD reference that are not inside the normal DTDs and/or the program make an error distinguishing between XHTML and HTML, you will have to wait a long time, and then you will get a lot of errors just because OpenSP is not able to use a proxy. In your case, does the validation works ? Or it is slow and it does not work neither. Anyway, I am not sure, I can do something about this. I forget: maybe some caching feature should be added. P.S.: "Ignore error" does not work properly =20 -----Original Message----- From: Igor Petrovic=20 Sent: Wednesday, November 22, 2006 4:53 PM To: htm...@li... Cc: Igor Petrovic Subject: BETA version HTML Validator 0.8x - very slow performance Hi, =20 if I try to validate page that should be XHTML mobile 1.0 compatible, I must wait for >=3D 60 seconds (for example mobile.lastminute.com; "XHTML mobile profile 0.3.6" firefox plugin should be installed). =20 What is the reason for that latency? When I trace, I see that for every validation new DTD request on wapforum.org is made. Maybe the reason is that http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/xhtml-mobile10.dtd internally depends on some other DTDs, supplied by w3.org, and loading all those schemas is performance killer for SGML parser.
