I have been trying for quite a few hours now to get a "HP PSC 1100 all in one" to work on a "Debian Woody" machine using libusb and the latest csv of hpoj. The ptal-init setup finds the printer on usb .. Probing "/dev/usb/lp0"... Found "psc 1100 series" with serial number "HU36QCP3TSB0". This device is already set up as "mlc:usb:psc_1100_series". and then i get this error afer it ends... ptal-mlcd: ERROR at ExMgr.cpp:4063, dev=<mlc:usb:psc_1100_series@/dev/usb/lp0>, pid=1012, e=20, t=1084463355 libusbFindDevice: Couldn't find device! But when i restart ptal-init i get the following ... Stopping the HP OfficeJet Linux driver. Starting the HP OfficeJet Linux driver. mlc:usb:psc_1100_series and then this error a few seconds later ptal-mlcd: ERROR at ExMgr.cpp:4063, dev=<mlc:usb:psc_1100_series@/dev/usb/lp0>, pid=799, e=20, t=1084462925 libusbFindDevice: Couldn't find device! when i try this.. # echo 'hello' > /var/run/ptal-printd/mlc_usb_psc_1100_series i get this.. ptal-printd(mlc:usb:psc_1100_series,0): Unable to open print channel! Hmm... hpoj-devel has one post listed in the archives for Apr. hpoj-announce has nothing in the archives for 2004 hpijs has one mailing list linked on http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/, "hpinkjet-announce"... nothing listed in 2004. I don't see any posts relating to those dates in the hpijs help forums or open discussion forums. So, how buried is the list you're referring to? After a quick research over the web, I Hi. I don't have any knowledge of your printer, and I don't use RedHat, so I can't address anything from those points of view. But I'll do what I can. > found some instructions on how to proceed with this printer and Linux using > the hpijs drivers. I followed the instructions carefully with hpijs 1.6: You don't say anything about installing or using hpoj, but you did send email to this list. Did you in fact install and test hpoj precisely according to instructions that come with it? > 1) Have the tar driver downloaded > 2) untared driver > 3) move to untared directory (hpijs-1.6) > 4) run ./configure from prompt > 5) run make > 6) login as su > 7) run make install > 8) verified intallation with hpijs -h This seems fine for hpijs. As above, what about hpoj? > After that I tryed to add the printer. The system identified correctly my > printer (hp 1300 series appears beside the printer mounting path) but when I > try to select the right Printer from teh HP list, the printer is missing! This part is something I can't address, because it seems to be information coming from some RedHat-provided utility that I don't know about. But just guessing, it would seem that the utility knows about HP printers enough to list the family that yours belongs in, but if you've not installed, or correctly installed, hpoj, "the system" wouldn't be able to talk to your printer to know it is present. > Some could shine some light on his subject? Am I doing something wrong? Hopefully this is some light, and yes, I think you're missing hpoj. If you have installed it, we need to know about that. thx, jbh |

Hi there, I am just starting to use Linux in my desktop, and decided to give a try with REDHAT 9. The installation was really smoth, and I got almost all working except the printer (at am stucked at this point). I have a HP PSC 1350 Multifunctional. After a quick research over the web, I found some instructions on how to proceed with this printer and Linux using the hpijs drivers. I followed the instructions carefully with hpijs 1.6: 1) Have the tar driver downloaded 2) untared driver 3) move to untared directory (hpijs-1.6) 4) run ./configure from prompt 5) run make 6) login as su 7) run make install 8) verified intallation with hpijs -h After that I tryed to add the printer. The system identified correctly my printer (hp 1300 series appears beside the printer mounting path) but when I try to select the right Printer from teh HP list, the printer is missing! Some could shine some light on his subject? Am I doing something wrong? I just want to add that I am completely new to Linux, and have almost not any idea of any line commands, file structures, etc, etc. Sorry for the lousy English to.. Hi, I would like to know which HP officejet models are the easiest to setup under linux while taking advantage of the most of the capabilities of the officejet machine. I'm looking for a high-speed scanner that can be used under Linux with USB, can batch scan legal documents, photos under X and command line. |

Hello, First of all, sorry for the previous unreadable message, I send it again hoping that this times will be O.K. I have just bought a HP PSC 2410 photosmart. The scanning works corretly, but I have problems with printing. When I try to print a test page, the page neve prints, the printer desplay says that it is printing and waits forever. Moreover, if I push the cancel button on the printer the job it never cancels the job; I have to turn off-on the printer. If I try the following command cat .bashrc | perl -p -e "s/\n/\r\n/" | ptal-print mlc:usb:psc_2400_series The printer prints the file multiple times, until I switch off the printer. I have search but I have not found anything that helps me. I use cups under Debian Thanks, Luis. -- http://antares.sip.ucm.es/~luis |

Install HPOJ 0.91 (from your distro or from http://hpoj.sf.net/) and then do ptal-init setup After your MF device is configured, it will automatically us the "hpoj" SANE backend which is part of HPOJ. The backend does not need to be configured, but there must be, as for other backends, too, an entry in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf, in this case a line with only "hpoj". I have just purchased a Laserhjet 3015. As uaual, it just doesn't come with Linux support. I have the printer working fine, by configuring it as an HP3330, but the scanning via SANE won't work. I'm assuming I need an entry in /etc/sane.d/hp.conf for this unit, but I don't have a clue what the values should be. |

I just had problems with my HP OfficeJet G55 not printing. CUPS would see it but nothing printed. I was told to upgrade my hpoj to .91 and now everything is working (printer). My scanner function died several years ago so I have not been able to use the scan function. I run SuSE 9.0 "Der Benutzer" <der...@ho...> wrote in message news:BAY...@ho...... > Hello, > > I recently purchased a OfficeJet V40 (USB).
