Maybe there are two reasons: 1. SuSE 9.1 kernel doesn't support libusb - at least with the x86_64 version 2. There used to be some problems especially with the G85. If the device is in energy saving mode, communication with the device is broken - sometimes. A workround may be to power cycle the G85. Hi, I have a problem to get the HPOJ G85 working under SuSE 9.1 ptal-init finds the printer and doesn't give any error messages. ptal-devid gives the followig output # ptal-devid ptal-devid: Failed to retrieve device ID string for device "mlc:usb:OfficeJet_G85"! Or could you help me to compile correctly hpoj-0.91 in my iBook with gcc 3.3? thanks for all Regards Andrea |

sorry, but ican't speek it as good, It works, as a printer, but to slowly, and after setting up the scan function (I'm using SuSe and I don't understand linux... a simple user for some small office and multimedia) I allways have to setup the printer again (with yast) |

My hp psc1110 printer/scanner doesn't work anymore. Not sure if it's a bug or what it is. It has worked before, not quite sure when it stopped working. I'm quite new into this, I don't know if this is the right place to write, but I hope anyone here could help me. I'm running the hpoj driver (version 0.91), which I think works allright: [~#] ptal-init status ptal-init has been started. [~#] ptal-device mlc:usb:psc_1100_series Sane-find-scanner finds my scanner allright, however scanimage doesn't seem to: [~#] sane-find-scanner # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that # you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter. # Also you need support for SCSI Generic (sg) in your operating system. # If using Linux, try "modprobe sg". found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x3011 [psc 1100 series]) at libusb:003:002 # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage. # Not checking for parallel port scanners. # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports # can't be detected by this program. [~#] scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug somewhere? I'm running Fedora Rawhide, sane-backends 1.0.14, a self-compiled (vanilla) 2.6.6 kernel. /Daniel |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I recently bought a new HP PSC 1350 to use it under linux, with hpoj. Printing works, scanning works perfecctly, and of course standalone copying works. Photo card access works with only minor glitches using the standard USB mass-storage driver in the kernel and standalone photo testpage/etc printing works. BUT the printing, at anything else than draft, is extremely slow. Draft works ok, but high quality prints at something like 1 sweep every 8 seconds. Yes, 1 sweep every 8 seconds. Clearly the data transmission is the culprit, since the first 3 sweeps are printed at normal speed presumably due to the buffering during the page load. I use libusb with ptal, etc, since the kernel driver didn't recognize the printer. (These LIDIL based ones don't work with the kernel print driver, don't they?) The problem is that printing is very slow, and it's not a CPU problem: usage doesn't increase nowhere near 100% during printing. Just to inform you that the Makefile doesn't recognise systemV slackware use. The inizialization file should be placed in /etc/rc.d/rc.hpoj. If this will be done slackware users would use hpoj successfully without having to set things manually. ================================================== dott. chim. Hi - Been searching around (this list, HP's site, Usenet) and am not getting anywhere. My setup: HP OfficeJet 6110 MFP (USB) cups-1.1.20-r1 hpoj-0.91-r3 hpijs-1.5 kernel 2.6 (gentoo; devfsd-1.3.25-r6) AMD 1.6GHz, 768M RAM, 1G swap Whether I'm printing or scanning my system grinds to a halt (practically) during the entire time until the printed document is spit out - something is definitely out of whack. Other than that everything works fine. I also use jpilot to sync my PDA via USB and have no noticeable problems so don't necessarily know if this is a USB-related problem. I use ~/.toprc to set top to a frequent update and AFAICT I don't see anything hogging CUP/MEM. I don't know what other info to provide but can someone tell me if there's some cfg I'm missing? Or if something (known) is broken? I normally load all USB/print/scan as modules but tried compiling into kernel with no improvement. Mike -- mai...@ve... |

Ok thanks for the tip, it worked OK, now I can make an install hpoj-0.91. once its running, I can ptal-init-setup, the printer gets detected OK. This is the problem i' m having now. tarpuy:~# ptal-connect mlc:usb:oj4100 -scan ptal-connect: connecting to device "mlc:usb:oj4100"... successful. And after installing sane it scans OK but tarpuy:~# ptal-connect mlc:usb:oj4100 -print ptal-connect: connecting to device "mlc:usb:oj4100"... failed! tarpuy:~# So I can scan but not print... :) Any thoughts??? thanks.
