I got this working finally. I'm not really sure what did it, but I think it is because I used the redhat-config-printer-gui tool. It didn't seem to like using the cups only method. I did have to reboot to make it work, but I think it was because of the upgrading of libusb, and other items. I am using FC1 with the rawhide rpm for hpoj. Here is a list a relevant rpms that I had downloaded to make it work: cups-1.1.19-13 hpoj-0.91-7 hpijs_1.5-4.2 ghostscript_7.07-15.2 foomatic_3.0.0-21.3 usbutils_0.11-2.1 usbview_1.0-10 libusb-devel_0.1.7-3 libusb_0.1.7-3 I was using apt-get so if there were any dependecies, they were installed as well I fooled around a bit before rebooting, but after rebooting, I went through the instructions once more and everything worked. I did use the redhat-config-printer tool to create the printer. I choose the HP 4115 and all the settings that the instructions say to use. Hope this helps someone else. -- Barsalou <ba...@at...> |

I am looking at the recently introduced HP PSC 2355 "all-in-one" printer, scanner, copier. Will something in hpoj 0.91 support the scanning function? (viz., will ptal-init setup find this device?) Will something in hpijs 1.6.1 support the printing function? (PSC 2300 series is listed.) I currently use all this software with my HP PSC 1210; everything works just fine! Thanks. PS When will new version of hpoj be released? |

Hi, I had a PSC 1210 up and running on my linux box (2.4.22) with everything working perfectly (Cups - Sane). I could print and scan (though I had to restart the PSC after scanning to get the printer to work again.) I then had to get rid of the 1210 and so replaced it with a 1210v. I plugged in the 1210v and printing "just worked". However, scanning no longer works. (xsane could not find a device). I ran ptal-init setup and was presented with a default of the old 1210 and so deleted it. It now doesn't find anything when scanning the usb port. When I run sane-find-scanner it tells me that it may have found a scanner under libusb:00x:00y which tells me that libusb is recognizing a scanner but doesn't know what to do with it. What is different about the PSC 1210 versus the PSC 1210v and where should I look to get the scanner up and running? Thank you. |

Hi, the list ! Could somebody tell me if OJ 6110 and 5510 -have a good compatibility with SANE / CUPS ? Easy to install ? (I have Mandrake 10.1) -can send faxes to lists (without using the computer) and remember the lists -have a modem which can be accessed from the Linux PC ? Many thanks Gerard |

This seems like pretty straight forward stuff and I believe I am running the latest hpijs. I can ptal-print, ptal-connect -service ECHO. The log messages indicate that the printer exists. Cups seems to think it prints the stuff. But absolutely nothing comes out? Shouldn't I be able to just send a job right to the printer by using the ptal-print command? What other steps can I take to figure out why this is not printing? Mike B. -- Barsalou <ba...@at...> |

Ed, Wolfgang, everyone else, I have been able to get my PSC 1315 working as well with printing and scanning using the fstab method - it works great! Except for one minor thing - the ptal-printd daemon has its own sub-set of paper types and doesn't import the ones that cups uses, thus when using the /var/run/ptal-printd/mlc_usb_psc_1315 device via cups or anything else with, say, mozilla firefox, all of the options listed for paper type make the output jobs print waaaaaay too big - say I want to print a whole page, it only prints the top-left of the entire page on ONE page in a font that's easy to read, but cuts off everything on the other 3/4 of the page! This is a bit disturbing, so everytime I want to print something, I have to issue a /etc/init.d/hpoj stop and select the printer to the default cups device in order for it to print right. Any suggestions? -Scott * Eduardo Stefani (edu...@te...) cobbled forth: > Hello Wolfgang, > > My PSC 1315 is working now, print and scan !!! > > If you have the LIBUSB librarys installed in you computer, you need compile > the HPOJ with libusb support and to mount the /proc/bus/usb, is better to > put in the /etc/fstab. > > Pay attention to compile the HPOJ, will be necessary the LIBUSB devel > library. > > [], > Eduardo Stefani .oO Gnea [gnea at garson dot org] Oo. .oO url [http://gnea.net] Oo. Hello Wolfgang, My PSC 1315 is working now, print and scan !!! If you have the LIBUSB librarys installed in you computer, you need compile the HPOJ with libusb support and to mount the /proc/bus/usb, is better to put in the /etc/fstab. Pay attention to compile the HPOJ, will be necessary the LIBUSB devel library. Hi, I've installed hpoj 4110 on my RH 9 desktop, and printing works just fine. However, when trying to activate the scanner, I get: # scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). # scanimage -d mlc:usb:officejet_4100_series -T scanimage: open of device mlc:usb:officejet_4100_series failed: Invalid argument I've compiled and installed: - hpijs-1.6.2 - hpoj-0.91 - sane-backends-1.0.14 I've tried all the connectivity tests mentioned in the hpoj docs, they all pass. I've made sure hpoj is in the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file, and that "ls -l libsane-hpoj.so.1" is correct. Photo-copying using the device works, so it's probably not a scanning hardware problem. Anyone has an idea? Thanks joch |

[sent from wrong account. This is take 2] I've tracked down some more information. According to truss, the mlcd tries to open the /dev/ugen0 again (it has it open already, but tries a 2nd time) on freebsd it get a "device in use" error from open() (I'm assuming gets handed to libusb, and libusb just returns a null handle). Still trying to work out why it opens it twice. Regards Simon |

Hello, This is my first message on this maillist and I will begin with a = question. I have a PSC 1315, using Debian Woody with 2.4.27 kernel, HPOJ version = 0.91-3, HPIJS version 1.6.1 and the CUPS version is 1.1.14-5. The HPOJ was installed using the testing distribution by APT-GET on = Debian. The scanner are fine, working very well with a good resolution and = speed. But the printer doesn=B4t working, when I run ptal-print, the = result is FAILED !!!. But when I try to configure the printer on CUPS, I = have the printer listed.=20 Anyone knows this problem ? Thank you very much !!! [], Eduardo Stefani |

Hi hpoj folks, since some time I am experiencing a strange problem: after turning off the printer and turning it on again, I can't print anymore. The connection is not there anymore. e.g.: david@phoenix:~$ xojpanel Failed to open PML on device "mlc:usb:PSC_2100_Series"! Usually I can recover by restarting the connection by hand executing 'ptal-init start' as root. But on some occasions even this is not enough . Then restarting the cups driver doesn't help either and I have to reboot the machine... :-( Where should I hunt for the problem? Thanks, David |

Hello, I have a HP OfficeJet D135 and have installed the hpoj drivers successfully, however I had to change the uhci driver (/etc/modules.conf) in order to be able to scan without erratic I/O errors. So all's well till I try to scan from Xsane instead of command-line scanning (scanimage). From Xsane I can't get the scanner to do batch scanning, neither duplex....it just scans one page, not duplex, and stops, ignoring all the other pages in the ADF, however things work perfectly from the command line...so I'm thinking that perhaps this has something to do with the fact that I changed to uhci (instead of usb-uhci). Any ideas on how to get Xsane to work duplex/batch mode? Also, I am interested in making a automatic scanning process, in which the scanned images are automatically converted to PDF files...or even better, searchable PDF's (ocr)...these are the times I wish i knew a bit of programming :-( So does anyone know of a way to scan the images and make them become PDF"s automatically? As you have probably noticed, I'm rather new to the whole linux scene....however I am trying to learn as fast as possible (my "job" now involves this) Many thanks in advance, Fernando |

Thx for the update! Only question would be, any chance you plan to put this on the web site (front page and under the News link) so that people who hit that get the message? Let me guess: the limb-climbing means, Marketing hasn't seen your statement yet, so you have to wait til they see and bless it before it goes on the page... regards, jbh |

The ScanJet is a single scanner. We have no connection to that group. There is talk about releasing binary only drivers but that is pure speculation. Ok, well, I'm gonna go out on a limb here... I have been trying to get a Drawer Statement for months now to make the formal annoucenment and I feel it's time to make a satement now and hopefully we can spread the word to the community. The HPOJ project was indeed adopted by the same team that brought you HPIJS. We have combined the projects into one new driver that will be released tentatively in late fall of this year. It will include all the functionality of the previous projects plus some new features. It will be backwards compatible with all the USB devices. Sorry this took me so long to respond. If you have any further questions, I can try and answer them but I have to be very vague on the details... Cory On Wed, 2004-08-25 at 15:14, James B. Hello ppl, Fist of all, beeing new to this group, I would like to thank everyone for the wonderfull service provided. So, to the problem: I have a HP OfficeJet d135 (fully supported) installed on Redhat 9 running kernel 2.4.20. I followed all the installation steps faithfully, and it all seemd to work just fine untill I tried to actually scan something. What happens is that i get a I/O error in the middle of the scan of the last page in a batch (or, if there is only one page beeng scanned i get the error in the middle of that page). After this error, the scanner "dies" as in that linux no longer recognizes it, I have to power-off then power-on the scanner for it to be recognozed again...any ideas on how to solve this issue? p.s: Im using duplex (both sides) scanning mode...so it looks like this: 'scanimage --duplex=3Dyes --batch --batch-mode=3Dyes' using XSANE anso yields a I/O error msg in the last page (halfway though it) Also, I would like to be able to place all scanned images into a single image file (or, better yet, a pdf file) and not have it generate a independent image file for each scan.
