#29 Does not build at all

After the initial "./make" no makefile is created. See the attached config.log.
This applies to V1.3.1

The file from trunk doesn't even run ./configure:
$ ./configure
configure: error: cannot find required auxiliary files: compile
Doesn't look very trustworthy if not even the build process is tested :-(
I think I'd better stick to the traditional method for rsyncing files.
