We are getting to the point where we need to switch focus. The current stable branch (1.0.7) is getting pretty stable. Most of the requests coming in are for enhancements, instead of significant bugs. So, shortly, the development effort will really start to focus on 1.1. New features and enhancements will go into this branch, instead of 1.0. As a result of this, we are going to need some more help in this area. What we need are: 1) Additional coding help. We are working on a task list to help people who want to assist know what they can do. 2) Additional testing. Help us catch those bugs. 3) Evaluations. Tell us what is good, what is bad, what is missing, and what needs to be improved. 4) Packaging. We get a lot of questions and complaints about installation. Right now of the major distributions, GRAMPS is easy to install only on a few. Debian and Linspire have GRAMPS in their standard repositories. Several others are in fairly decent shape - Richard Bos has been doing a great job supporting SuSE via apt (which is not standard under SuSE unfortunately), and Fedora installs most of the needed packages by default, but still requires a bit of effort on the end user's part. -- Don Allingham <dal...@us...> GRAMPS Open Source Genealogy |
