This channel is very little used—this is only the second post this year—and has few subscribers. It’s also supposed to be about bug reports and you haven’t filed one, nor should you for a “what report should I use” question.

The best place to engage with the Gramps community for questions like this is the Gramps discourse forum at https://gramps.discourse.group/.

To answer your question more directly, the most detailed reports are the Detailed Ancestors and Detailed Descendants reports in the Reports>Text menu.

I use GRAMPS 6.0.6 for Mac. It is really a very comprehensive piece of software. Data entry is very easy.
However, I have an issue with the graphical reports. The “Hourglass” report is very good because men are on the right and women on the left, and it also includes the SOSA number. On the other hand, it is missing information such as places, occupations, and the place and date of marriage.
Is there a report that includes all of this?

Recently I submitted bug 0014019: [Relationship Calculator] Names of
all "in-law" relationships in Russian are wrong in Quick View->Relation
to Home Person report <https://gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=14019>
and were asked to discuss it on the forum, so I do.

According to a recently published book A. A. Burykin, V. A. Popov.
Russian terminology of kinship and affinity. historical dynamics
axiological fields. communicative discourse. St. Petersburg Centre for
Oriental Studies Publishers St. Petersburg 2020, some in-law relations
have special terms in Russian, while the others should be "described".

Gramps instead shows those in-law relationships in Russian as if they
were consanguineous, namely:

* Relationship "grandmother-in-law" in Russian is called "бабушка"
(grandmother). There is no special term for this relationship and it
has to be "described": "бабушка мужа" (a grandmother of the husband)
Relationship "father-in-law" for a wife in Russian it is "отец"
(father) while it has to be "свёкр" (a father-in-law for the wife)
* Relationship "mother-in-law" for a wife in Russian it is "мать"
(mother) while it has to be "свекровь" (a mother-in-law for the wife)
* Relationship "father-in-law" for a husband in Russian it is "отец"
(father) while it has to be "тесть" (a father-in-law for the husband)
* Relationship "mother-in-law" for a husband in Russian it is "мать"
(mother) while it has to be "тёща" (a mother-in-law for the husband)
* Relationship "son-in-law" for a husband of the daughter in Russian
it is "сын" (son) while it has to be "зять" (a husband of the
daughter). This relationship should also be described in addition
because the same term ("зять") may be used for a husband of Home
person's sister.
* Relationship "daughter-in-law" for a wife of the son in Russian it
is "дочь" (daughter) while it has to be "невестка" (a wife of the
son). This relationship should also be described in addition because
the same term ("невестка") may be used for a wife of Home person's
brother.
* Relationship "brother-in-law" for a brother of the husband in
Russian it is "брат" (brother) while it has to be "деверь" (a
brother of the husband).
* Relationship "sister-in-law" for a sister of the husband in Russian
it is "сестра" (sister) while it has to be "золовка" (a sister of
the husband).
* Relationship "brother-in-law" for a brother of the wife in Russian
it is "брат" (brother) while it has to be "шурин" (a brother of the
wife).
* Relationship "sister-in-law" for a sister of the wife in Russian it
is "сестра" (sister) while it has to be "свояченица" (a sister of
the wife).
* Relationship "brother-in-law" for husbanfollowingds of sisters in
Russian it is "брат" (brother) while it has to be "свояк" (a husband of the
wife's sister).
* Relationship "sister-in-law" for a wife of the brother in Russian it
is "сестра" (sister) while it has be "невестка" (a wife of the
brother). See also "daughter-in-law" for a wife of the son above.
* Relationship "brother-in-law" for a husband of the sister.
Fig_13.jpg shows that it is "брат" (brother) while it has to be
"зять" (a husband of the sister). See also "son-in-law" for a
husband of the daughter above.

Please note that it is not a mere translation issue since there is
many-to-many relationship between English and Russian terms for in-law
relationships as the example below shows:

Relationship --------------- English --------- Russian
A father of the husband ---- father-in-law --- свёкор
A father of the wife ------- father-in-law --- тесть
A husband of the daughter -- son-in-law ------ зять
A husband of the sister ---- brother-in-law -- зять

These names of the "in-law" relationships are the output of rel_ru.py

shows that 3 week ago  GPL2+ license text has been updated. But the other
changes were made 10-20+ years ago.

Also there is another related bug in the code 0012743: Russian relationship
calculator is buggy (calculates relations between cousins 
incorrectly.)(with PATCH to fix)

November 12, 2022 and has not been fixed since then.

So it appears that the code is currently unmaintained and I would like 
to fix
it myself. Please let me know may I proceed.

I try to set a new Home person. The procedure is something like:
- choose the person in the Persons menu (OK)
- set the person as Home (how??)
- confirm the setting in the Edit menu (can't find the appropriate menu entry)
(This procedure appears when I press the Home button).
I tried switching the Id's from the old Home person (I0000) to the new one,
but that didn't work either. The old HP (now I0016) still pops up as HP at the start, but pressing the Home button gives an error ("No Home person") and shows the above procedure.

Good afternoon,

This really isn't a bug but I hope you can help me with it.  A long time
ago, I noticed my Gramps Family Tree doubled in size.  I couldn't account
for this so I assumed one reason might be that Gramps made changes that
big.  Well, I was wrong.  Recently, I discovered what the problem is.  You
see, I have people accessing my apartment ; I have reported this to my
Federal Government (USA) and it can't be stopped right now.  So,
someone accessed my family tree and made a change to a record.  I think
they made a pages long duplicate entry in the description field of the
Marriage field.  I was able to find out what the problem was by making a
raw text report of Places, P0008 (England) to Notebook and that worked.  I
tried OSD and PDF but it could not print.  What led me to figure out what
the problem is, is that I am editing my Places ; putting things that should
be in the description in the description field and merging places so I
don't have so many Place ID's of one place.  Then, I got to England, P0008,
which I can access until I scroll down to a certain point, then, I crash.
Originally, I thought that I would have to have more than 1 Place for
England, because, I felt, I had too many people in P0008.  But, then, I
remembered I had trouble accessing West on a People search.  So, I ended up
printing a Place report and -- lo and behold -- I have this huge duplicate
entry for Thomas West.  Another problem is, I haven't been able to fix my
problem.  I was trying to make a copy of my family tree to a flash disk
every time I made changes to my family tree and then import it the next
time I wanted to make changes to avert the erroneous changes; but, they got
me.  At that time, I was making changes on a daily basis.  The problem is,
it turns out I am so Royal I can't stand myself (lol) -- but, I didn't know
that until that last several years; or, until I started working on a family
tree.  FYI - I have gotten certification of me being descended from Eve
from a DNA test I had done with CRI Genetics (I think I have a copy of this
on my YouTube).  Anyway, I have tried to edit the record or just delete it
but it is so large I cannot access it. I have tried implementing access and
leaving my laptop on all night but that isn't working.  I have tried using
the different tools but, again, it is so large, I cannot access it.  So, I
was wondering if you could delete it for me.  The reason for this record, I
am assuming, is because the record name, Thomas West (he is very old)
married Eleanor Copley and we have a very nice Copley Plaza Hotel here in
Boston ; I have reported this to my Government (FBI).  So, there was a
madness behind their method but I don't know exactly what it is.  A link to

The lock will be in the Family Tree manager window.

A tree will be locked if Gramps does not close properly. i.e. a crash.

Double-clicking the locked tree will allow you to "break" the lock. Then
you select the tree again and load it.

I'm using GrampsAIO64 5.1.4, I imported a GEDCOM FILE when I try to open it I get this message " force-unlock option if you are sure that the database is not in use". I don't see a lock anywhere. I tried command prompt with no success. 
Please advise.

I have no idea what this means.

Hello,

I tried to send an error report to the bug tracking system but couldn't 
log in. With an anonymus log in the system didn't allow me to post the 
bug report - but I couldn't log in with my email-Adress.

When I tried to reset my password, I got the message 'no user 
information for this email', when I tried to create a new account, I got 
the message 'this email-address is already in use' , so I had no chance 
to post my report.

There are sites to report bugs and request new features and these you
must register and logon to utilize, the same as this email forum, but
the program itself you download and install on your computer's hard
drive.

What steps are you doing where the logon/password show up?

attempt to do so I see a form in which to insert two items - User Name and
Password.  In the first box I enter my email address, and in the second, a
Password.   The form wiggles and shows a warning "email address is
incorrect".  This is ridiculous, as I have never told you my email address -
and in any case, it is absolutely "correct", it's the only address I have.
Please help me to start using Gramps!

the Narrated Web Site is missing, and requires manual editing of the HTML
file. It would be better if the HTML were generated properly in the first
place.

Follow up to this Avast has responded with confirmation that it is a false
positive for the GrampsAIO-5.1.1 download.

I can see you made your account using this email account, but as you
mentioned no reports are shown, which browser did you use, can you please
try again and while submitting take a few screenshots and email me directly
on web...@gr... !

Please note that the downloads have been check for virus/malware etc and
Avast has given you a false positive on the Gramps 5.1.1 release from last
year!; you can report this to them directly on
https://www.avast.com/en-au/false-positive-file-form.php
as only people using Avast would have this issue.

I submitted a bug report twice via the bug tracker (https://gramps-project.org/bugs/my_view_page.php) and my message never showed up under "reported by me" despite appearing to save successfully so I will report it again here.
Avast anti-virus software detected the following spyware in Gramps:
Threat: IDP.GenericInfected file: libgio-2.0-0.dllFile location: C:\Program Files\GrampsAIO64-5.1.1
After quarantining the infected file, the Gramps application will no longer load.
Please advise.

Thanks for that. I hadn't considered the PortableApps version might be out of date. I installed the desktop version at the same time, so I don't have any new information stored in it yet. I had hoped that I would have a working copy of a program I could take with me without having to lug a laptop as well (espcially one with a very small SSD), as none of the genealogy programmes have an Android option. 

Thank you again for your help, but it looks like I'm back to the drawing board!
