For those of you who may have missed the news, the state of Massachusetts in the United States seems to have opened the door for legal gay marriages (at least for that state). This goes beyond the "domestic partnerships", and establishes a legal marriage. (I'm not sure if this exists in other countries, but my guess is that it does) This brings up an interesting question of how GRAMPS should handle this. Currently, GRAMPS has the relationship concepts of "Marriage" (male/female) and "Partners" (male/male or female/female). Will this still be sufficient given the potential new legal status? It has the potential of really complicating the interface. The program would be a lot simpler if there was a distinction between the two, but it might prove offensive to people who have fought for years for this. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=533&e=2&u=/ap/20040205/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage -- Don Allingham <dal...@us...> GRAMPS - Open Source Genealogy |
