I generally find that the .gramps (compressed but no media files) "backup on exit" Preferences option is sufficient for an automated backup. https://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php/Gramps_5.1_Wiki_Manual_-_Manage_Family_Trees#Backup_on_exit And there IS a timed backup that was introduced in the 5.1 version. (Note that the v5.1 Release notes omit mentioning this feature. Maybe it happened earlier and the wiki wasn't updated. The "Automatic backup" is, at a minimum, undocumented in the Wiki v5.0 manual.) I have shied away from recommending it because of significant performance impact. Patches are available (for manual install) but will not be generally distributed until the next enhancement (v5.2) release. Read the comment discussion in "bug report 0010953: [Gramps AIO] becomes grumpy when woken from a napping PC / IndexError: list index out of range": https://gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=10953 In addition, for users with large Trees, even the patched version has some unpleasant drawbacks. -Brian On Mon, Jan 31, 2022 at 6:25, Brad Rogers<br...@fi...> wrote: On Mon, 31 Jan 2022 10:57:09 +0000 Peter Flynn <pe...@si...> wrote: > Do I understand right, that Gramps can automatically create .gramps or .gpkg files by itself, unprompted? It does require that you select the option in prefs (including a path to save the backups to), but otherwise, yes. That said, the backup files are of the .gramps variety, not the .gpkg type. -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is never immediately apparent" / _)rad "Is it only me that has a working delete key?"
