That's quite interesting. Is there a chance that any of this will be 
implemented in the foreseeable future (say in 2016)?

Maybe not quite. Results of two experiments:
* Quit Gramps, restart, reopen database => still no birth date
* Create backup, create new database, import backup => birth date shown

?!?
