Maria, > How can I download version 4.0.3 onto my PC? If you run Linux, see here: https://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Download#Linux:_Install_latest_version > Why does it say "advanced users only". In other words, what do I need to > learn to qualify as an advanced user for the purposes of downloading 4.0.3? Maybe it's over protective. It assumes that 'normal' users only install software through the built-in software manager, and don't know how to download and install from sites. If you do, and you have Debian, Ubuntu, or Mint, download the .deb file as instructed on above page, and double click that file once downloaded. The package manager will then check if all needed software is there, and install. It will also tell you if something's wrong. Please make a backup first, and then check if 4.0.3 works for you. If not, you can also try 3.4.7, which will probably be better if you have an older Linux version. 4.0.3 should work fine on any Mint/Ubuntu updated last year. I use Mint 16 myself. regards, Enno |
