This below worked for me: (1) Tag the direct ancestral line up from your living relative, call it say, LINE 1. If you want only 40 people or so to be shown, you'll probably only have 5 or 6 people to tag. (2) In Person Filter Editor, create a filter, say "trunk" which consists of People with the <tag> Tag:="LINE 1" (3) In Person Filter Editor, create a new filter, say "stripped tree" which consists of Children of filter match Filter name:="trunk" Spouses of filter match Filter name:="trunk" Siblings of filter match Filter name:="trunk" "At least one rule must apply" (4) Reports=>Graphs=>Relationship Graph=>Report Options=>Filter "stripped tree".
