This entire thing could be a poor understanding on my part. If so, I apologize. I realize asking this question has gray answers but I think it's worth asking. It has to do with putting dates on things. Example: A relative told me about an ancestor. I put him/her into the system and put as the source "Familial Memory" and I put today's date in the top field and that relative's name in the page field. Later, while doing more spelunking, I find a reference to this ancestor in a book. The book is in my sources already so I don't have to update that, I just have to add the source to the entry. When I add that source to the ancestor, I'm again given the option of putting a date on it which is associated with the ancestor, not the source itself. So, I put the current date in that field to show when the source relationship was established and it's confidence level. The actual source, the book, has it's own date associated with it. Question: Am I misunderstanding the purpose/use of this date field? If so, what's a "more correct" use? And, the one I'm the most scared of: "Is this discussed somewhere in the documentation that I should have seen?" Thanks for everyone's time! -- << MCT >> Michael C Tiernan.
