I hope my asking questions like this isn't being a pest or PITA. Again, I ask this question, not just for my own use but maybe to help others who, like me, are still in the early learning stages. I have two basic choices (I think): 1) Create one huge tree for everyone from me and my wife back into time. 2) Create five trees. A) Me and my wife. B) My father and his ancestors/relatives. C) My mother and her ancestors/relatives. D) My wife's father and ..... E) My wife's mother and ..... The reason for choice #2 is to address privacy concerns and to allow others in that particular branch of the family to see only that branch if/when I publish reports and documents. An example of this would be, there's no need for my maternal cousins to see my wife's paternal branch. So I ask: Am I worried about nothing? Am I missing the obvious? (I usually put money on this one.) How do others handle this sort of thing? Do others have alternative ideas/approaches/suggestions for this sort of situation? Obviously, if I'm being a dolt and looking at this wrong, please say so. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here so no advice will be wasted and I suspect others will benefit from the discussion. I have one cousin who's said that now that her tree has 14,000+ entries, she wished she'd split hers. This is what prompted me to ask this here. Thanks for everyone's time! |
