Hello, I've just found out there's a proposal to open a Genealogy StackExchange (it's the software that powers Stack Overflow and now about 50 more similar websites). There's a well-defined procedure for establishing a new website. The (proposed) Genealogy website is now in the commitment phase, which means they need users to commit they'll visit and participate in the site once it enters beta. As the help docs themselves say, this is an important period as the questions and the answers at the start will define the whole site for a long time. As such, you can "commit" to the site using the following link: http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/2553/genealogy?referrer=ZuXbievSo21UZvrx04eTvg2 (if you don't want to be associated with my account, remove the ?refferer=... bit) I think a Genealogy StackExchange site will be very useful. It's seems like a very good place to unify much Genealogy-related information, which is something that is currently lacking. We have used this mailing list occasionally for general genealogy questions, but it's not exactly the most popular list in the world. :) It would also be an excellent place to get country-specific help. And, finally, I just like the underlying framework they offer and consider it much more usable than any number of mailing lists. -- Vladimir Perić |
