Devs, I'll be heading to RootsTech [1] in a couple of days to represent Gramps there. There are a number of items of interest for us, perhaps the most so being a Python-based interface to FamilySearch written by them especially with us in mind. As far as I know, that code hasn't been made public yet, but when it does it should show as an updated legado [2]. There are also people working on the contenders to the next GEDCOM formats, notably BetterGEDCOM [3] and OpenGEN [4]. I have been following both of these groups, but I'm not certain that either one will succeed where others have failed. Both seem to be way behind where Gramps is, but both appear to have exactly the same goals as each other, and Gramps. You can see the full schedule of the events at the RootsTech website. If you see something that you would like to know more about, drop me a line and I'll try to make it to the talk. A couple of people have volunteered to donate money to the travel expenses to go to RootsTech, and I am doing all that I can to cut costs. However, we are still about $500US short in pledges. If you would like to contribute to the fund, please see [5]. Finally, while I'm on the road, with laptop, I thought I'd get some work done on Gramps. So, if you'd like to join me for a little Gramps Sprint, Thursday through Sunday, please do. I hope to knock out items on my list, and will be hanging out on IRC #gramps. If you know of anything that you would like looked at, drop me a line. -Doug [1] - http://rootstech.familysearch.org/ [2] - http://code.google.com/p/legado/source/browse/trunk/src/FamilySearch/?r=30 [3] - http://bettergedcom.wikispaces.com/ [4] - http://www.opengen.org/ [5] - http://sourceforge.net/project/project_donations.php?group_id=25770 [6] - http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Contact#IRC |
