Dear Rob, > What is the difference Ancestor Report and DAR? I guess, you know the visual differences ;) AR: * 2 layout options * Translations selector * Sosa numerotation * Primary events : birth, baptism, death, burial (date/place) and no family informations DAR: * 2 layout options * Many content options * Many optional objects * Placeholders (date/place) * Family informations ... Design/layout is not the same, options are differents. I guess options are often for advanced use. So, maybe 'to disable options' is not the same as 'to run a report without any options available' !!! If I want to send some useful informations to a distant cousins, I generate a simple report, ex: ancestors with birth/death dates and places. Then, if need, more related informations (sources, media, placeholders, families, children, etc ...) When Don made reports rewrite[1], it was already for some 'general|generic reports' and to avoid duplicated actions. Agreed to set default options like current simple reports and to merge simple and advanced reports seems to be an alternative. But a dialog with multiples tabs is no more a simple report, even without options set. Most users will have a look (or not) at the others options. Also what about the current options and styles set ? Note, for these textual reports, I made a feature request[2] : something like a general place for numbering ancestors/decendants, style of numeration and matching duplicated ancestors! Not only for reports (also interface, gramplets), so maybe into Relationship module ? Otherwise, it is also possible to add some features patch after patch [3]. i.e to display 'same parents' or to add 'mariage informations' on Ancestor report instead of a global code. À: "Gramps Development List" <gra...@li...> Date: Lundi 16 août 2010, 0h18 Greetings All: Today, I have taken the time to play around with a lot of things in Gramps that I never or seldom use. I have found several things that I still will not be using unless I find a way to do something better! I would like to know if there are functionality differences between these two things? If there are no differences, then why have two of them? I do like having the Clipboard Gramplet available as my gramplet... When it comes adding data or creating new people or families, what purpose does the DataEntryGramplet do that is different than what Gramps already does? Is there a reason to have duplication? If DataEntryGramplet is the best way to do this, then why need two? I know that there exists different or simpler ways of doing things in Gramps, but is there a time when Gramps becomes over bloated? I am not trying to hurt, make mad, confuse, anger anyone! I am also not trying to spend time picking out anyone to pick on them... I hope not to anger anyone with this email. Also what is the difference between Descendant Report and DDR? What is the difference Ancestor Report and DAR? Sincerely yours, Rob G.
