I use the following command: cd ~/gramps/website; rsync -vr --delete * mi...@me...:WWW/genealogy where ~/gramps/website is the target for my narrative website. The -vr is verbose and recursive (necessary) and the --delete tells it to delete anything from the target if it no longer exists at the source.
