I'm not sure what you mean. Under Preferences->General, I tried changing Max Generations for Relationships to zero and saw no improvement. --- On Mon, 11/23/09, Gerald Britton <ger...@gm...> wrote: From: Gerald Britton <ger...@gm...> Subject: Re: [Gramps-users] Performance Linux versus Windows?? I've found that that can slow things down a bit On Mon, Nov 23, 2009 at 4:08 PM, Edward Comer <ec...@ya...> wrote: I installed python-enchant and see no improvement. Where I really notice the delays is when I click back through the paternal path in relationship mode. Starting with me it seems fast enough to go to my father but the further back I go the slower it gets. By the time I get back 5 or six generations back it takes seven seconds to refresh the screen with the new data. I have used the Windows version for two years and I think that I would have noticed this before if it was present there. --- On Mon, 11/23/09, Benny Malengier <ben...@gm...> wrote: From: Benny Malengier <ben...@gm...> Subject: Re: [Gramps-users] Performance Linux versus Windows?? The XP box is sitting in the corner, unused. However, to me, Gramps seems very much slower on my 64-bit amd dual-core machine than it did on my 32-bit Windows XP 64-bit amd dual-core machine. After Thanksgiving I am going to crank up the XP box for a side-by-side comparison but, in the meanwhile, I am curious about the performance experiences of others relative to Gramps on Windows versus Linux. Install python-enchant. It is not a dependency, but not installing it makes start up a lot slower. This will be fixed in 3.2, no python-enchant, no spell checking in the notes. Otherwise, I can think of no reason. Gramps is mainly developed on linux, so if it is faster on windows it is an unknown bonus :-D Anyway, bsddb build makes some difference, the last known item on devel list was that widows with python 2.6 was massively more slow than linux or windows with python 2.5 on xml import, see http://old.nabble.com/Extremly-slow-XML-import.-td26247860.html#a26247860 Benny ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial.
