I'm not clear if the 'someone' would already be on Dianne's tree - if so, Deep Connections should sort it out. If not, presumably the 'someone' has at least a bit of tree that stretches up to Joe Bloggs - in which case, I'd try importing that into a copy of Dianne's tree and (after merging duplicates) using Deep Connections on the modified copy to see if that might do the trick.
