Oh, well filters are specific to an object type. That is basic to their operation. Some rules might apply to more than one type (e.g. "marked private") but most do not. I suppose it would be possible to make a generic filter type, with a limited set of rules that apply to all objects, but I can't see how Gramps could allow you to create a filter that includes a rule like "born before" and use that on a source object. To do that would require some kind of master list that all rules refer to that says what rules apply to what objects and ignore those that do not apply to the object the filter is working on. Is that the sort of thing you have in mind? If so, can you write up a feature request and put it on the bug tracker?
