Emrys, GRAMPS is python, there is no need to compile or configure, it is just convenient on linux (windows users don't run configure either). The compile system checks for the entire distribution needed for creating translations, sets up mime types, ... . Things that are convenient, but not needed. So on a MAC, just do the following (assuming the dependencies are installed not yet part of python, so glade, pygtk, ...): 1/rename const.py.in into const.py 2/start GRAMPS with: python src/gramps.py To install, open the gramps.sh.in script and replace the variables as valid for the MAC, then move and rename that where installed progs are, so for linux that would be /usr/bin/gramps Disadvantage is that you do not have the 'make clean' install and such, but that is a minor inconvenience.
