A more helpful syntax includes the country - where I am, for example, requires me to feed in "Melbourne, Victoria, Australia" (top levels should be countries). In the US, Co. (or County) as a pre- or post-nominal also causes problems. And renamed places (especially in Europe) require some hand-work to show users the correct place. I tend to take what I get from Google (or anywhere) and edit it, making sure that it shows what I want it to show, not someone else's idea... :-) A bit tedious, but we take no less care with our genealogical work. Can any of you users give me some tips for getting better value from the PLACES I have in my GRAMPS db? I've been pretty methodical about doing thorough entries, such as Waller, Waller County, Texas for the full Place Name, and then completing the relevant specific fields in the section below. With previous versions of GRAMPS I'd used the PlaceCompletion tool to put quite a few Latitude and Longitude entries. And with the addition of the GoogleMaps button, I can locate places with relative ease from within the programme - but I'm keen to do more completion of the Lat and Long. Are there any tips or obvious things others can direct me at that I've overlooked as ways of getting more/better place info into my records?
