Hi Guys, I have been off doing other things, but just took a look at the Trunk code and am a bit discouraged by the state of Notes and Narrative Web. What happened to the proposed simplification for the Notes? Now there are 7 different types: Citation General Report Research Source text Transcript Unknown These type names are all confusing. What do they mean? All except 'Source text' have nothing to do with the manner in which the text is saved/stored. PLUS the 'Preformatted' check box option is still there. Also, Source text seems to be meaningless as well: I was able to make some text bold and italic with the provided tools and save it as Source text while retaining the bold and italic characteristics. Huh? Where and why is that style being saved? I remember a method described of styling the notes according to character-by-character definition that is separate from the content of the note. That's great, but if the Notes type is set to 'Source text' why are the bold and italic tools still available? Surely we can set different 'modes' for the interface to correspond with the different note 'types'? Right now, judging by the interface feedback, the note 'type' is meaningless or at most secondary. I am only further discouraged to see what happens to my 'Source text' notes when exported to web via Narrative Web and used as Introduction page content: There are no <p> elements employed and <br /> tags are dropped between 'paragraphs' of text with a trailing </div> which apparently does not have a related <div> preceding it. Needless to say, this is a pie-in-the-face of meaningful, semantic markup. Can anybody explain what happened? -Jason |
