2008/5/6 Mário Nogueira <mno...@gm...>: > Hello there! Welcome > 1. Most of my info is based upon birth records, which usually include > information not only about the newborn, but also about his/her parents > and grandparents. I'm keeping scans of those records on disk, as PDF > files. How would you title them in the Sources view? Something like > "John Peter Doe Birth Certificate"? Here in Portugal we have very long > names, so I don't know if this is a good solution (names like "Dona > Amélia Henriqueta de Castro Ramirez Villaça" are usual). Something > simpler (like first and last name only) could lead to confusion, as > lots of names are very alike... Any ideas? I have worked a lot with this, and here's my suggestion: make a media directory in the directory of your database. Inside the media directory make directories for * People * Sources * Places * Events files with people in can be name: i__Surname__Firstname_Middlenames__SomethingUnique.ext (p for person is used for places, so 'i' is for individual) ...a source like you mention could be: s__Documenttype__Place__Date ... think about how you'd want to search for them. I have: s__Marriage__UK__Scotland__County_Lewis__1878.pdf if it's a birth certificate for me it might be: s__Birth__Lithgow__Duncan__1974.jpg I hope that all helps a bit Duncan |
