Duncan, I re-read what I wrote and I think it was confusing. This is what I do when I get mixed up in bits of previous installs: 1. Uninstall any gramps that came in packages 2. Run $ locate -e gramps | grep -v /home 3. Remove all the bits that the locate turns up: $ sudo rm -rf /usr/share/gramps $ sudo rm -rf /usr/local/share/gramps $ sudo rm -rf /usr/share/omf/gramps and so on.
