I think you should go with "N'est pas mari=C3=A9(e)" and let
the users decide what they want to use it for.

I would say that Unmarried should be applied to a relationship
when it is known that the parties are not married to each other.
Remember, this is a Relationship Type, and as such applies
to a family/relationship, not to a single person.

Maybe you can even replace "N'est" with "Ne sont" (forgive
me if this is not the correct verb, but you get the idea)
to indicate that this applies to a couple.

As for the details, I am sure that some users will use it
one kind (e.g. never married) and others will use it
for other kinds (e.g. never married and divorced) of relationships.
We cannot tell them what to do :-)
