[Gnuplot-info] taking slices with splot

Gentlemen,
   
  using Gnuplot version 4.2 with windows 98
   
  I take slices of a 3d surface in splot by setting the range on one dimension to a minute amount.(and maybe you have a better way of taking slices).  But the plot that appears is not a line but scattered dots.  That is because all that appears is the plane's intercept with the 9x9 mesh.
   
  Is there any way of replacing the 9x9 mesh with a solid surface (or even a denser mesh) so that the 2d slice of the 3d surface would be more like a line than random dots?
