Hello, I need some help with plotting a 3D function from a data file. This data file has columns "phi z r", and all points on a circle with a given r are grouped, that is there is a blank line after each circle data, and "set mapping cylindrical" is used. Is this blank line sufficient to get pm3d to work? Please look at the following files: The data file: http://kynes.de/~thorben/gnuplot/zernike_06_coeffs.dat The plot file for pm3d plot: http://kynes.de/~thorben/gnuplot/zernike_06_coeffs.plot And the resulting output: http://kynes.de/~thorben/gnuplot/zernike_06_coeffs.png Why does the 3D graph on the left look so horrible? What can be done to improve it? Any pm3d settings I should try? Do I need to preprocess the data first? How? Now, I've plotted the same data using dgrid3d: Output: http://kynes.de/~thorben/gnuplot/zernike_06_coeffs_dgrid3d.png (Using http://kynes.de/~thorben/gnuplot/zernike_06_coeffs_dgrid3d.plot) This looks quite nice, but can I have a non squre mesh? My data is only defined on the unit circle, so it would be great it the mesh would have circle boundaries. It would also be good to have the pm3d at the bottom respect that. Many question I know, but looking through the faq and googling here and the= re=20 didn't lead to many answers, so why not ask the experts :-) Thanks for your help, Thorben Kr=F6ger P.S.: I'm running CVS HEAD |
