Well, we never know.  ;-)

Seriously, I'm just not used to inserting colored figures in a b&w
document, and I thought it might be possible to tweak GNUplot into doing
it.

Besides, how does "with boxes" work with `splot'?  I fail to understand
how it connects point together.  Or is it just supposed to be used with
`plot'?
