[Gnuplot-info] Error: terminal "png" does not support continuous colors.

Hi

I'm using GNUPLOT and trying to save plots image as "png" figures.Everytime
error message appears.

"Error: terminal "png" does not support continuous colors."

I did 
"gnuplot>set terminal png"
"gnuplot>set output "*.png""
"gnuplot>set pm3d"
"gnuplot>splot "*.dat""
but error message showed and failed to save image.

Why does this happen? I have no ideas.
