[Gnuplot-info] problem with zooming in gnuplot

I am having problems using the zooming feature in gnuplot.  When i run gnuplot from command line I can "set mouse" then "plot x" and it will allow me to zoom.  When I use "gnuplot -persist < test.txt" in which test.txt has only the two lines "set mouse" and "plot x" it doesn't allow me to zoom.  What can I do so that the "gnuplot -persist < test.txt" will allow me to zoom?, or should I submit a bug report?
