Thanks for the quick reply but I don’t think boxes will do the trick for me.  
I need to place my rectangles at arbitrary positions in the plot, not all 
touching the X axis. I also need to change the fill color on the fly. I can 
generate the rectangles that I want with  boxcxyerrorbars  but I don’t seem to 
be able to change the fill color on the fly. Is there a way to specify the 
fill color on the same data line that I specify the rectangle?  I really 
appreciate any help.
