That's not how you're supposed to work with pgnuplot.exe.  What made 
you think it was? 

Make that

	FILE * plot_pipe = _popen("pgnuplot.exe", "w");

and then, once you have a non-NULL plot_pipe, you can "print" your 
commands to it:

	fprintf(plot_pipe, "plot x\n");
