[Gnuplot-info] probelm setting the terminal to x11

  hello,
i recently installed gnuplot 4.0 on red hat linux and
i am having trouble setting the terminal type. When i
type  "set  terminal  x11" in gnuplot, i get the
following message :

unknown or ambiguous terminal type; type just 'set
terminal' for a list

    then i typed "set terminal" and it displayed all
the terminal types except "x11"...Is there something
else i have to do to set the terminal to x11 ? I had a
older version of gnuplot and it worked fine. 

any help is greatly appreciated.
