[Gnuplot-info] pl --> gnuplot --> png --> ppt -->???

Hi,

I have a befuddling problem.  I recently upgraded to gnuplot 4.0 to take
advantage of filled bars.  Everything was going beautifully, and my Perl
script was driving gnuplot to generate .png files, which I copied over to
windoze, and included in PowerPoint.

Then one day, it stopped working.  The .png as imported into PPT was
trashed, although it was viewable & correct in other applications
(Netscape on Solaris, Microsoft Photo Editor).  When I "Save As..." the
.png to another filename with Microsoft Photo Editor, PPT was able to
import the new .png just fine.

The only thing I can think of that changed is that I switched from the
package-installed gnuplot4.0 to a version built by my sysadmin (because we
didn't want to be forced to install the help file where gnuplot was
compiled to look for it -- why isn't this controlled by an environment
variable!?!?).  But when he reverted back to the package-installed
gnuplot4.0 for me, the problem did not go away!

Any ideas?
