Trial git repository is up on SourceForge

A trial git repository is up on SourceForge.

Now that I can look at it through their interface, I see it needs some
additional work.  Some files in the archaic releases have leaked into
the modern ones. I shall need to insert a shim commit that deletes
them.

Everybody should eyeball this looking for other malformations -- wrong
authorship attributions, in particular.
