For Unixy environments, I have experiences for CYGWIN and Ubuntu.

1. Download source tar ball from SourceForge site.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot/
Files -> (each version)

2. Extract source tar ball.

3. Read INSTALL file carefully and prepare dependencies (dynamic link libraries and development files.)

4. Apply patch with patch command
$ cd (source root directory)
$ patch -p1 < (patch file name)

5. Configure with properly setting environments variables

6. make  and make check.

If you have no experience with Unix build, please ask experts.
