[Gnuplot-info] Keep in memory

I can plot a file, like
plot "< paste " . ARG1 . "| awk '!/^\#/ { print $1, $2 }' " using ($1-x0):2

How can I get the data in a variable ?

Then I could fit the data without reading the data again for example.
