[Gnuplot-info] Can I use symbolic names for linetypes?

Being a human and not a computer, I like to use names instead of numbers, 
so is there a way to attach a name to a line style?  I can't seem to see 
one.

I know I can use e.g.

    set style line 1 lt 1 pt 2

and use

    plot blah lt 1

etc, but I'd like to say something like:

    set style "style-this" lt 1 pt 2	# I am plotting "this"
    set style "style-that" lt 3 pt 4	# I am plotting "that"

and

    plot blah lt style-this, blah lt style-that

etc, to decouple my desired style from the magic numbers; it will also
let me play around with RGB/CMY colours more easily.
