Unfortunately, that breaks on gp5rc1 with the following 
message:

gnuplot> set linetype 4 lt 1 lw 2.5 lc rgb "black"
                        ^
         "Gnuplot-Workspace/gnuplot-5rc1/gnuplot-5.0.rc1/share/colors_mono.gp",
line 8: linetype definition cannot use linetype

Building it in would be nice, although I find it
acceptable having to "load" something - PROVIDED
this really brings me back to the past gnuplot
terminal behavior.
