I cannot reproduce your problems here using MSVC 2012 and pre-built Qt 
5.1.2 (MSVC) on Windows 8. Also MinGW with pre-built Qt 5.1.2 (MinGW64) 
works as expected. That is actually somewhat surprising since this mixes 
MinGW's libs with MinGW64's ...

Have you tried using the provided binary Qt versions for MinGW64?
