I was too excited too soon. My observation must have been a side effect of a mixture of: - forgetting to run "make install" - some of my previous attempts to fix the issue - the fact that "enhanced" made by attempts nonfunctional, while "noenhanced" made them work (and I didn't know that when I tested) So I'm in fact still getting the small, almost unreadable font in Qt by default.
